Flukes, flukes hundreds of the things.

PP'd my pond yesterday, hoping to get rid of Trichodina. Earlier this morning I scraped the same fish as yesterday, no sign of any trich but I literally couldn't count the skin flukes, wherever I went on the slide, it was thick with them. Been out and got some Flukasol and just now got it in the pond.

Just wanted to add, how helpful Gaz from Aurora has been, above and beyond really. One day, if I ever get on top of these problems and if I can earn some dosh again, I'll be buying some fish from Aurora.

Cheers Mark. I feel that certainly for the next few days, it's going to be a case of sitting back and waiting to see if the treatment works, nowt else to do at the moment as far as I know.

Hope you get your problems sorted as well. It's hard to imagine just being able to sit and enjoy the pond and fish again isn't it?

    Hi Gmac,

Flukes have been awful this year and i am currently doing a 5th treatment this year for them, you will need to treat again after a few days unsure if its 7 days to retreat on Flukasol but due to warm pond temps you might want to do after say 5 days but thats upto you, i used NT Flukasol 3 Times and it helped but did not eradicate, i moved onto Lernex as its main active ingredient is different to Flukasol and treated once then again 7 days later, only found 2 adults and 1 baby on 6 slide's which was much better than Flukasol, i have 4 days ago treated with CT to reduce fish mucus and have 3 days again gone in again with another round of Lernex and will do again in a few days time, rough on the fish but hopefully this will eradicate them but its been very very frustrating....... hope you nail em..

Thanks for that, good to hear that you're getting it sorted. I will certainly take some more scrapes in a few days and then retreat as necessary. If the NT Labs stuff doesn't work. I'll order some Lernex from Gaz.
I'm down to eight surviving fish now and they've really been through it this last couple of months. Trich, white spot, costia and flukes

as you have such a high infestation of flukes i would plan ahead with the possibility that multiple doses of lernex upto max number of doses may be needed to eradicate them completely .

make sure you fully clean your filters before hand, remove all waste and purge your bottom drain if you have one as parasites can survive in debris/waste

    good luck mate

Lost two more this week, that's eleven now (I think)

The remaining few fish actually look quite good at the moment. No flashing or clamping etc. and they are feeding.

Will get some scrapes at the weekend and see if the fluke treatment has worked.

Thanks Anne. Hopefully I'll get sorted and save the remaining fish. The pond does look a bit sorry now, it's lacking any colour, with all the Kohaku, Sanke and kujaku gone.

Don't know mate. Sunday will be a week from when I dosed with Flukesol, so my plan is to scrape some fish and redose of necessary. The surviving fish are behaving much more normally now, so I'm really hopeful.

I think so laulau, yes. I scraped a couple of fish a week or so after treatment and could find no evidence of flukes.
I was concerned at the time, as many others didn't seem to rate Flukesol, I went for it because I felt that it needed doing sooner rather than later and it was the only fluke treatment that I could collect locally on the day.
I.ve been thinking of scraping again this weekend, just to check.
