Anyone seen this before, swollen/inflamed lateral line?
Noticed yesterday the lateral line on one side of my Doitsu Ochiba protruded slightly, and today it looks visibly swollen with a hint of red to it.
I've never seen this before so have no clue what it might be, but its worth mentioning that my Kohaku has 3 or 4 raised scales along its lateral line which could just be coincidence.
Recently treated the pond with CT to reduce any bacteria levels prior to a scrub down of the pond (just in case bad bacteria was being harboured in the silt etc) and this was followed by a 60% water change.
Every water parameter is as perfect as my supply water will allow.
Any ideas?
Topically apply something to it?
Test the pond for bacterial count?
Leave it alone?

Hi RS,
I have on good advice this is possibly Papilloma of some strain. Salt and higher temperature can help but some strains can be difficult to shift.
Not much I know much about in all honesty but twice this week similar has cropped up so will be investigating.
As always Manky Sanke could be a decent source??
Cheers

Wow, thanks Gaz, never even considered that so any further nfo you find would be helpful and much appreciated.
She's a friendly koi so I was stroking her along that side earlier and to touch it feels no different to the rest of the body and the same level of slimyness.
But when I pressed against it the protruding section was unexpectedly quite hard but again felt no different to pressing against any other part of her body.
There's no behavioural symptoms whatsoever, she's lively, happy and eating well.
Now off to read up about Papilloma!

Very little information online about Papilloma in koi, mainly just scientific studies where they've been purposely infected.
Mixed information about how contagious it is in koi and the likelihood of other koi getting infected.
I've had this koi for 3 years and other then being covered in flukes when I got it, it rarely causes any problems. It was however my first koi to exhibit carp pox and does have mild symptoms every winter which don't fully clear up until around July.
I do have another doitsu koi (52cm Sanke) with a similar looking 1.5cm x 1.5cm x1.2 cm lump on its peduncle that was there when I bought it (didn't notice) with loads of visible blood vessels coming from it but it's never got any worse and I suspect any attempt to remove it would create a blood bath! No idea if it's the same thing.
Think it will take a while to get to the bottom of this one, but if it is viral hopefully it will go back into remission without me having to stress the koi.
..... Assuming of course that this is papilloma, but it seems a feasible diagnosis based on what can be seen.

Well, it's almost like I imagined it all.
24 hours on and If you didn't know it was there you wouldn't notice it today.
It is now back flush with the body with only a faint indication of redness and "swelling".
Will take a photo tomorrow as it's chucking it down today.

48 hours since occurence the swelling / possible papilloma has now reduced significantly by itself with no treatment, but still visible.
Plan is to do nothing for a bit longer.
