odd behaviour In koi following treatment of pond

Hi all - I’ve got a koi that’s been spending more and more time by the surface and doesn’t seem
Interested in the food which the others are snapping up around him/her. I can see a few scales on each side that are white ( about 8-10 each side ) and He/she looks Bloated so don’t know if this is normal behaviour for a Pregnant fish? Doesn’t seem to shy away when I go to it either which is odd for him/her. I did treat pond with Lernex about 5 weeks ago and again a fortnight later, but the last treatment should be out of its system By now shouldn’t it as it’s three weeks since I put that in.
Any help would be appreciated - water parameters look ok with exception of ph which has risen to 8.1 and KH which has dropped to 4 ie 74.2 ppm (normally 5 . Ie 89ppm)

Have you taken a scrape? what you describe sounds bacterial but often bacterial infection is secondary to parasites. I realise you have not long ago treated for flukes but they are proving difficult to get rid of this year. A few scrapes would be the next action for me. Then take it from there.

Yes I needed to give the water time to clear as it was like pea soup after two doses of Lernex so couldn’t see my fish let alone catch them. I’ll be doing another scrape as I’ve noticed one of my others rolling today - Julia this hoping I don’t have to re dose and lose the water clarity again

Hi m8 done a scrape as fish was shelving itself today by the ledge that the perimeter stones sit in so easy enough to catch. Here’s a shot thru the microscope lens - not very good at spotting things but did see this not sure if it’s anything or nothing? Can. Anyone throw any light on what it is ?

Hi Steve, looks like a stretched out fluke. Was it moving like a leech?

Where are you based? If you are struggling on the scope someone may be able to assist you.

    Cheers

    Hi Gaz
I’m in lincs but there’s no movement at all in the object I viewed. The koi is very listless looks swollen up like it’s ready to give birth and just hangs around the shelf area with top fin out of water . Looks like it’s panting to me if that makes sense

Sadly my koi passed away today still sitting on the shelf - That makes 3 in a matter of weeks !!
I did another scrape from the dead koi and found one moving Worm-like object So am assuming that’s a fluke and I will have to treat Pond all over again ? Given that the Lernex treatment - which cost me best part of £400 for the two treatments - didn’t touch them, has anyone any better ideas for treatment ?

£400 for two Lernex treatments - how many gallons is your pond mate ?

22k gallons approx - hard to say exact as its oval shaped and attempts to measure how much we put in were thwarted by the berks who were fitting my filters who kept draining and refilling it while
The meter was still on. Lernex treatment took 5 large bottles each time which I didn’t mind until discovering it hasn’t worked . Wondering if I’ve under-dosed but didn’t want to push it in case we killed the fish .

    Hi Steve,

I would recommend scraping some of the other Koi mate as often parasites will leave a dead koi and you may get false information.

Please post what you find. Flukes can and will kill koi but not often quickly which makes me wonder if there is another issue.

Happy to help if I can.

    Cheers

I wondered about that Algarth but it died today and I think I found a parasite on it . ( although not entirely sure as I’m a bit new to doing scrapes)

Hi gaz - will do M8 I lost sight of the moving ‘worm-like” critter as I looked away to get my phone So I could take a pic and it’d scarpered . Spent a further 30 mins trying to find it on the slide but with no success. Grrr.
Will keep trying but the old adage about “a little info in the wrong hands can be a dangerous thing” Springs to mind ...I think there’s another adage that goes : “all the gear and no idea” Lol
    hopefully I’ll learn 🤓

22k gallons Steve that is one big pond, any pictures of it ?
Flukes and Costia etc this year have been very hard to eradicate and so multiple doses have been needed to eliminate 100%.... as said before do some more scrapes and post your findings mate preferably with some pictures of any parasites you think you have found, you may well have other issues as well as flukes.... treating with CT prior to using fluke treatment helps to remove excess mucus on your fish giving the treatment more chance to get to the flukes else they bury themselves into the mucus and protect themselves from the treatment, many on here do this, i hope you get sorted mate, all the best Steve.
