I think it does personally although I may be wrong. Probably best to be cautious for the first couple of days after treating

If your filters are well established it should not affect them by any noticeable amount at current temps.

If filters are less than 2 years old it may knock them back slightly for a few days but they'll recover fast.

How old are the filters? If new it could be bad, but if mature they should("should") take a hit and recover quickly.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. The pond is 27months old, but the filters were fishless cycled before that, so they are prob 29 months.

    Fingers crossed then.

So what would you advise, do regular water tests for Ammonia and Nitrite?

    Cheers,

    Jay

    Exactly that mate.

What I tend to do is check water and administer treatment if water is perfect.

30-36 hours after treatment koi will be asking for food (maybe sooner if you have high PH as NT Labs FMG isn't as strong as others out there), then I would check ammonia and nitrite before each feed for 2 to 3 days, taking appropriate action if there's a reading.
After that I would do 1 check a day for another 2 to 3 days, after which carry on feeding as normal, or, put in the 2nd dose and start over again if required.

Even if you feel it doesn't need checking as often as I've said, I think its a good idea to because its part of the learning process about how your pond reacts to stuff so in the future if the same situation arises you can be better prepared and know how your pond and fish will cope.

Cool, I'll do that. As you say it's good to know my particular pond.

    Cheers.

Hi Anne, yeh turned them all off, but thanks for highlighting that, as I would have needed to have known that.

Does it mean the FMG is inactive now the water colour has returned to normal, it's been 4 days.

Absolutely no change in my readings during this treatment, the filters haven't been affected to any noticeable level at all, which is great.

Both my Nexus have a crazy amount of K1 in them, something like 300 litres, and the fish stocks aren't high.

My belief based solely on oxygen readings in my pond is that the formalin will be inactive after 3-4 days but still unadvisable to mix any other medications.

The water may be clear but the Malachite Green could still be active to some small degree.

That's cool, I thought that might be the case.

Unfortunately I think I need to retreat as we've still got some flashers, so I'll wait the full 7 days.

    Cheers.
