Thread: Columbo Lernex

    Columbo Lernex

Discovered my koi had Gill fluke after a scrape and was recommended to use Lernex . Problem is the instructions state you must turn off UV and as the treatment takes two weeks followed by a 2nd treatment to kill eggs as they hatch the water Has gone so murky I can barely see the fish ! Water parameters seem ok but water is turning from green to brown - any suggestions ?? (I have plenty of air going in btw)

I have the same treating for skin / body flukes but I thought it says you can switch on the UV for the last week of the treatment i.e. after 7 days so if doing two treatments it would be off for a week, then on for a week, off for a week then back on for good?

My skimmer had loads of algae in floating at the top, I don't think there is much else.

Really?? I didnít see that in the instructions I thought the UV had to be off for the duration

Did your treatment do the trick by the way as Iíve lost one of my large Koi this morning no marks on it whatsoever so Iím assuming itís the result of the Gill flukes

Hi, not sure if it's done the trick, they look to be better but I haven't done a scrap yet. The manual isn't very clear to be honest it says "UV-lamps and ozone should be switched off during 1 week after the last administration" in https://colombo.nl/wp-content/upload...1004598-V3.pdf so I took that to mean switch off for 1 week once you've administered? My water was like pea soup but its getting clearer now.

Yes mine too ! In fact itís started to get brown and I have fish jumping out of the water which is odd because the first round of the treatment seemed to stop them itching and flashing. Itís this second round of treatment 14 days after the first thatís bothering them the most .

After using numerous fluke treatments without success, Colombo Lernex absolutely nailed them for me.

Funnily enough my pond also went brown shortly after using Lernex and I also had a lot of DOCs like an oil slick on the top of the pond.

The pond had recently been rebuilt at the time so I put it down to it being one of those weird stages of maturation that new ponds go through, but always wondered if it was caused by the Lernex.

I wouldn't worry about it, looks unsightly but it clears after a few weeks.

Cheers buddy - thatís relieving to hear . Iíve seen what looked like oil On the surface too So pleased I mentioned that . My koi are all hiding at the mo - not that Iíd see them In the pea green water If they werenít hiding lol
Iíve been told itís ok to switch the uv on again in the last week of the second treatment So only a few days to go but still seeing some flashing /rolling in a few koi Thatve come to the surface . A couple have even jumped into the air a little - is that normal ??

    Jumping isn't normal.
Excessive flashing also indicates a problem.

How many scrapes did you do?
Could there be more parasites that you've missed?
Need to scrape a minimum of 4 koi to be certain the are no other parasites.

Is there plenty of oxygen in the water?
Bear in mind the high temps which impact dissolved oxygen levels.

Has there been an Ammonia spike?

Has the PH been moving from its normal level?

Obviously it could just be the treatment causing it as the flukes become agitated and Ich the koi.

My water parameters all checked out ok - done them every couple of days tbh . Aeration wise Iíve got three large air stones running off 3 separate pumps Plus the air going Into the water in my bio - which is huge - And whatever air comes in from my waterfall.
We only tested a couple of koi and there was only one fluke on each slide so was hoping it wouldnít be too big a job getting it under control

Am hoping itís itching from killing the adolescent flukes as they hatched as first treatment was to eradicate adults and 2nd one to catch the young ones thatíd hatched from eggs b4 they lay more eggs. Did a scrape of my dead koi the other morning and no sign of any fluke on her - admittedly tho Iím new to this tho..

Ok so switched in my UVís as Iím now in my last 7 days of treatment 2 . I did hear too that Lernex Pro is a lot better than the version Iíve used so Keeping my fingers xd that itís worked after seeing my lovely clear pond run to green pea soup lol.
Out if interest did you have any probs getting hold of Lernex pro as Iíd heard it was tricky to get hold of .

To be honest, I was just after Lernex but two suppliers let me down, the first cancelled my order with no stock, the second supplier didn't provide any update and only after I chased them after a week they told me they didn't have stock.

I called the next dealer closest to me before I ordered online as I needed it more urgently then and they didn't have standard Lernex in stock either but did have the Pro, it was only £4 more on a 800g pot. They said that dealers use it and apparently it wasn't supposed to be available to the public but seeing as other dealers sell it they would but it. Not sure if there's any truth in that though but it wasn't listed on their website.

So, Pro was easier for me to get!

I would only use Lernex Pro if you've done a full treatment plus re-treatment (for hatching eggs) of normal Lernex and are still seeing live flukes on the scrapes.

I found normal Lernex a very good product. After using Fluke M, Fluke P, and Fluke Solve, normal Lernex not only wiped out the flukes, but also I didn't get any mosquito larvae in the filter for around 9 Months after using it.

The only thing Normal Lernex contains that none of the others do is Levamisole, so that must have been the ingredient that took my flukes out. Lernex pro is basically a combination of the ingredients found in the above branded products.

I'm currently treating for flukes and weirdly lernea (came in with some mirror carp I stocked).

My pond water is about 18C at the mo. Presuming I've got gill flukes, my understanding is I should retreat after around 6 days to kill off the newly hatched flukes as well. But the dosing instruction on lernex says redose after 14 days.

Just wondering which one you reckon I should do so I zap these little buggers?

I plan to do a small water change before the second dose, whenever I do it.

    Cheers.

All my blanket weed has turned brown, practically overnight.
Been a couple of weeks since I treated with lernex and maybe 5 weeks since the resolve went in.
    I preferred it green!!!!
