Scrape after treatment with pp!
Hi, How long should you wait to re scrape the fish after treatment with PP? Also the k1 in the bio part of the nexus has gone quite dark, is that normal?
Thanks Darren

Hello Darren, PP is an oxidising agent , so basically when its gone brown it's spent and the parasite (trich) should be gone. But my fish are not that happy after a dose of PP (it's one of the harshest treatments) for that reason only I would allow a few days before stressing them further.

I normally do a water change 10-20% after PP and watch the koi for a week and then scrap a couple.
For me I like to get the koi feeding and watch the water parameters for the first few days.
i find if I watch them over the week if any are sulking or flashing those are the ones I would scrape first.

It won’t be easy to get any slime to scrape directly after PP treatment, will need a few days.

It takes a few days for them to settle so would just keep an eye on them still.
mine are all fairly active wouldn’t expect to see them on the bottom unless looking for food, but again don’t worry to much they are still getting over the PP.

If I need to treat again, how long should I leave it? Also ammonia is ok but Nitrite is up a little, should I still feed a little or stop until the filter is maturing?

Depends how mature your filter is really.
last time I treated I started feeding them the following day, not much though I think probably 3-4 feeds and smaller amounts. I normally double that quite happily.
just test your water hopefully it will bounce bad quickly if mature.
Mine was back to full feeds in about 3-4 days.

Mine is back to “normal” after a few days, hopefully if your filters a mature it will bounce back quickly.
just take it easy on the food for a couple of days and test, if ok increase.

Do a scrap on it and a couple of others first.
if you find nothing then just salt bath the sulking one and see if sorts it.
i guess your water is ok and they are feeding again?

PP made no discernable difference to my filter. I was back to full feeding by the following morning.
Unfortunately it made no discernable difference to the Costia and Chilodonella either!

My Nexus moving bed is backed up by an Anoxic filter which I suspect is not as affected by the chemicals I've been throwing in.
So maybe it has knocked your filter back but keep feeding minimal and the nitrite should ease back to zero over the next week or 2.
If nitrite goes above 0.5 then stop feeding for a couple of days and start feeding lightly again once it goes back below 0.2.

Little update, fish are flashing more, can’t seem to see any tric but did find a few dead fluke, could the pp have killed them as I’ve not treated for fluke?

How many did you scrap, ideally 4-5 and from different parts of the koi.
along the side underneath and around the back of the gill and pecks.
if the water tests are good there is probably a parasite still probably flukes if you found a dead one.
pp will kill them but unlikely all of them the seem to be tough little critters.
just looked at this post the salt bath I do is 3oz per uk gallon
