Cotton wool type tissue on its face and body

On the back of treating with PP yesterday I have noticed on of the fish has lots off cotton wool type tissue on its face and body, any thoughts on what this could be and how to treat, I'm doing a water change at the moment after the PP treatment

It never rains but it pours

Looks bacterial doesn’t it - do you run a decent UV Roy? What’s your pond temp now?

I've just treated with PP and had a few issues so I don't really know what to think at the moment

The UV is okay with new lamp.

    Water temperature is 15.4 degrees

I'm concerned that the PP issues have caused the problem, it's not just one fish, its all the ones I've fished out, they are at the middle of the pond but they are still quite active

It only seems to have effected the small fish, the big ones all seem okay?

If it was ok before the pp .....then I would say its a reaction to the treatment or showing some sort
of stress reaction..... It looks like its sort of peeling .

Yes that's what I thought, a chemical burn was my first thoughts, either the PP or Chlorine or ST (not sure that one is possible)

I did feed them an orange the other day , so that might have given them ideas?

    Hi Roy,

Pretty sure that is mucous sloughing off.

Could be from the PP, but obviously something is/was wrong for it to have such a heavy layer of mucous in the first place, but likely to have been caused by the parasites you have now treated and has become visible since the pp stripped it.

If the fish is behaving fine I'd leave it. If it isn't but is now clear of parasites a salt bath probably wouldn't do it any harm.

I did give it a salt bath for 15 minutes but it didn't last the night, I have two others the same but they are now swimming around fine, I also treated with CT yesterday just to be sure it wasn't a bacterial issue, its only effected 3 of the small goldfish and I thought they were bullet proof compared to koi

    Hi Roy,
That looks very similar to something my Goldfish suffered from last year after treating the pond with Kusuri PP. I lost 8 altogether, some of them I had had from my old pond and were a good few years old. Hope you don’t lose any more.
    Cheers

    Sorry to hear that Roy.

Whilst in the main pp is often used in goldfish someone once told me they don't cope with it like koi can and there's a very fine line between killing the parasites and killing goldfish.

I don't know the science behind it but the person who told me is an expert on the subject and said only ever pp with goldfish if mass mortalities are a certainty otherwise, so I just accepted it.

I have just accepted it as I do most things in life, If I lose more, I lose more, But its nice to have a reason behind it so I am better informed for next time and I can get them out if needed for a few hours

Thanks Ady, I've had these a good few years as well, probably about 6 to 8 years

    Hi Roy,

Sorry to hear you were unable to save it but at least the others are doing well. I had similar with my Sarasa's after treating with PP on 25/05. Seemed to recover after a couple days so I put it down to the slime coat was just coming off due to the PP. Now a week later today I have noticed 2 of the Sarasa's have what looks like a bit of fin rot starting on tail and pelvic fins. Maybe the PP treatment was too harsh for them but fine for the Koi but at least all the flashing has stopped and the mucous scrapes no longer show any Trich or Flukes. Hopefully I can sort out their tails before it gets any worse. I might treat pond with Acriflavin as I have some lying around or take them out and give them a salt bath.

    All the best.
