I have had a reply from Dr Paula Reynolds first thing this morning (which I find absolutely amazing and thank you for those that recommended her services), her preliminary suggestion is the fish appears to be suffering from Carp Pox, although obviously diagnosis is difficult using photos only. Thank you all for your help!

If this is Carp Pox then its would appear to be an aggressive strain to be spreading across Mr Topiary's other fish, quite worrying when going by what i have read usually it just affects 1 or 2 fish and then others over a long period of time?

They reckon it spreads to other fish if the pox blob is broken. Like if you cut it open.
With what I have read it stresses for you not to try and scrape it off. And open them up.
Looking at that on mr tops fish.
I reckon the fish has been doing it to its self. Like flashing and damaged the pox.
Just my thought s on how its spread.
Tell you the truth though. I am still flabbergasted that its carp pox.

Hi Fred,
does look a horrific case of carp pox if it is that, i think your probably right its been rubbing against the BD and whateve else to try and get it off it self and is just causing a bigger wound..... i was a little unsure what you mean do you mean you should try and scrape it off or just leave it alone ? cheers Fred...2200 gallons, infinity window,

Leave it alone. If you try and scrape it off
Then it will spread. Or that's what I am led to believe lol.All my fish with carp pox. Over a 2year period. Have got rid of it
With there own immune system. All my fish have never been disfigured with it. Yet some peoples have. Here is mankysanke
