Thread: White spot

  1. #21
Looked at one of the old fish in the pond and Im not sure if I have it too now as well White spot

This fish does usually get pox in the spring more often than not on the top of the mouth, tried scraping him but he's got next to no mucus on him and the little I did get was clear, I've never had white spot that big visually

Hmm, well they are white and spot shaped...does look poss a little big, I believe the spots can be upto about 1mm in size though but I'm no expert.
Sure others will weigh in but is there any chance you can get another scrape, I had the problem the other way round with one of the fancies in that it was fairly sloughing mucus off, probably caused by irritation?

Hes never been a mucusy fish, hes about 65cm the spots are larger than 1mm and hard to the touch hes still eating and being his normal self, im wondering if its a spawning thing he is an absolute pest when it comes to spawing and his pecs and gill plates are like 120 grit sand paper

i dont even know what hes supposed to be, he was the last one left in the old pond when i moved in

I think I'd be inclined just to observe from what you say, could be a touch of pox or as you say a spawning thing. If there's no weird behaviour going on I think I'd just keep a good eye on things for the minute.

Pretty sure that is just mucus spots.

My 55cm Sanke has exactly the same spots. They normally go away as temps warm up.

Not sure why they appear but they're very common on the wen (jelly head) on oranda fancy goldfish where there's a build up of skin.
