    Advice on second fluke treatment

    Hello,

I identified a fluke on sunday on one of my koi.

Put first treatment of Fluke P in that day. Fish now happy again.

However I want to put a second treatment in due to the fluke life cycle.

My question is when best to re dose? My understanding is the fluke life cycle is sped up in warmer temps so want to catch the buggers at the optimum time.
Therefore what would people reccomend? Manufacturer says 7 days, but should this be sooner in this weather?

    Water temp is 19 deg.

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Andy

    Hi Andy

Are we talking skin flukes or Gill flukes.. The skin flukes have a pair of large hooks, the gill flukes have much smaller ones and a couple of distinct black spots on their heads.

Reason I ask is that Skin flukes are live bearers; you kill the fluke and you zap the unborn flukes inside it. One treatment is all that is needed.

Gill flukes are egg layers and for these you have to hatch the lifecycle to kill the flukes before tey get a chance to lay their eggs, the first treatment will kill the flukes, the second is to kill those flukes that have hatched out from the eggs that were in the pond. at your temp 6-7 days seems about right.

Hope this helps and good news that the fish are hopefully on the mend.

    Thanks for the reply.

The truth is I did not look that closely to determine the type.

I will do a second treatment just in case.

    Cheers,

    Andy

Hi Andy I did two treatments. The other month. For skin flukes.
As Dave says you only need one treatment.
I went 7 days then retreated.
Also a few of us got a secondary parasite.
Because the fish s immune system was down.
I myself got whitespot. And a couple got costia.
So after about a 2 week period after treatment rescrape and scope. Just to make sure mate.
