Agree with you Feline especially if you add new koi which could carry parasites you have to be on your toes.

Thanks very much for that John.
That's hard to ignore.
I've never seen a statement like that from someone so well respected.
I'm pretty sure Paula is considered the go to person for everything fish health wise.
In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they aren't.

No probs John, ill take one of the whole page if you want tomorrow,i didnt think it would come out so clear.
Yes,she is a well respected lady and i was very surprised to read it from her.I did read somewhere from herself that she never uses any treatments in her own ponds, yes apparently she has a few ponds looked after by employees.
But as Feline stated she maybe never adds any new stock.John

There is another way of looking at that though- Lincs fish health sell products aimed at 'cleaning up' and reducing bacteria in a pond system. You could argue that in a well kept, well filtered koi pond this should absolutely not be necessary.
Personally I would rather treat for flukes from time to time than be adding a disinfectant to my pond on a regular basis!
Now if they sold no products at all themselves then I would be more inclined to take advice about regular pond additives IYSWIM.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Are you saying she's a bit like the marketers selling hybrids then?
It's a fair point (yours not mine) but I spoke to Paula a couple of years ago and she couldn't have been more helpful. Was in no rush to get rid of me and didn't try to sell me anything. Other people have told me they've had the same experience with her too.
So maybe the article was written with her own products in mind or perhaps she has an approach that she believes in. I'm going to believe the latter.
In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they aren't.

I agree, Paula and I talk frequently on the phone and we share stories and information, we also share a common concern. There are too many "experts" (often with very little experience in the hobby) on the Internet especially on Facebook who try to make themselves look important by recommending their own opinions as facts and the correct way to proceed. Some of the "cures" and the dosages for medical problems and some of the recommendations for treatments to remove algae are very troubling to anyone who understands koi physiology.
Paula makes very little out of selling pond treatments and is thinking of reducing her range anyway so she doesn't have a financial motive but she regularly sees fish that have been subjected to some of these treatments. Often they are owned by hobbyists who blindly followed the advice that some "expert" put on the Internet or they bought an unsafe chemical from a cheaper supplier in the belief that it was the same as something that is used in a legal medication.

I totally agree that sitting on your hands initially is the best course of action albeit that I'm not in the inner circle of people who have recurring problems with their fish for which it seems I should apologise.
Listen to people who keep healthy fish in a healthy pond not those that think sick fish is a matter of fact and an acceptable part of our hobby.Alias PWNN - Steve
