I have a small cutting I'm trying to grow after I accidentally broke the end off one of my acers branches, the one in the above pic looks to be thriving and I'm I'm sure it will grow into a lovely tree, great to see one of these beautiful trees grown from a home produced seed

i think it is a bit too small to pot on mate, the roots will be very delicate.
they do fine in ericacious with a pH 5, (the way i remember it is it's named after the latin for acid loving heather flower 'Ericaceae')

but they actually prefer a neutral to acid soil about pH 6-7 with lots of organic material included like leaf mold or composted bark.
but i wouldn't bother with that until they are much bigger.

Thanks Dave,I enjoy doing cuttings and seeds from the garden and I seem to be doing ok with others,Geraniums etc.

Think I got it from my Mum and Dad who were well into gardening.

Good luck with the Acers - just dug up the last of three Acers around our pond. All only had leaves on very bottom branches this Spring and close examination showed the rest of each to be completely dead - after looking fantastic last year. On digging them out the roots did not look healthy and the real give away was a strong smell of fungus in the soil - so planting new Acers too risky.
Been out to wholesaler and grabbed a bargain blue conifer as this should be immune to whatever attacks Acers or other similar.
My DIY ponds from 1988 until present day.

That's a beauty, I have one very similar to that but much smaller, how long has it taken to get to that size

I guess patience is the answer then as I wait for mine to grow, acers are most definitely my favourite thing in the garden other than the pond

    Looks stunning John.

If you end up with lots of babies, I'd happily buy one from you.
