Aj and myself would love to have a go at growing some under your advice.
    no problem mate,
i will have a few this year when they drop thier leaves,
not good to take them before they are ready though.
late autumn time november they should be ready to plant up...as they are still growing and not started to dry up.

i did lose a good few on the purple dissectum,
as most of the plants in the garden were neglected a bit, and dried out as i was busy with the new pond build.
but the osakazuki has plenty so will send some to you guys.

that's a spectacular failure for all of us then...

i'll leave mine in the trays for now, and see if anything happens later.
if not i'll have another go this winter, but try putting the seeds in the fridge first...

Cuttings have to be easier than growing from seeds surely? But without the kudos!

I'm getting right into this Acer Bonsai thing. Watched a load of Herons YT videos, saw him turn a huge Acer into a Bonsai in about 20 minutes, so thought I would have a go with my new one from Morrisons.

After about an hour of walking round it in circles I'd removed about 5 twigs, then lost my bottle lol.

I also wired a couple of the lower branches with electricity cable to make them horizontal rather than pointing up. Don't know if it will work.

Good thing about it is that I can have a year off now before the next attempt

i think ther bigger the tree (within reason) the easier it is to turn to bonsai, as it will grow quicker with bigger roots...
like you say, peter will take a 6ft acer, air layer half way up the stem, then replant the top half as a new tree,
and use the thick bottom half as the base for a bonsai.

peter will always say "you have to be confident and cut, you can't make a bonsai without cutting..."

i usually keep walking around it for a few days or weeks, before deciding what to cut away...

cutting is easy, sticking back on not so easy
