Since i chopped my tree down i threw it away, too dangerous to have in my tool shed.
The worst thing is the reticulated teeth.
when you snag your hand you instinctively pull away and it bites deeper!
Lol aye they cut on the back stroke and go DEEP

Well done Dave in growing from seed thought you had to graft an ace.

I love experimenting and taking seeds, did a load of Spanish broom seeds and they all took nice plant and a lovely scent from the yellow flowers.

    Thanks,
And you're right you do have graft them if you want them to be the same as the parent.
Growing from seed they will be genetically different, most will be quite plain.
But once in a while you might get a new strain...
Thats why there are thousands of different acer varieties.
I'm not holding much hope though...
    Acer palmatum davethefish lol!

a bit of morning sun is only really an issue after a frost,
if you can shelter them from the prevailing wind, that will help stop them getting wind burn

great price for those mate, have to get myself down to asda
only i'm on an acer ban at the minute.... like it is with koi... one tree out before one tree in lol!

they are probably not long planted in those pots, so i'd let them grow out thier roots a bit first,
and build up thier strength before trying to shape them.
depends on what you are going for, as trees for the garden, or to keep them small for bonsai.

the atropurpureum will grow many branches out, and the single stem will in time become the trunk.
same with the orange dream the leaves are providing the tree with nutrients if you cut them back too early the plant will be weakened.

the only one i might have a dabble with is the butterfly,
if it is two separate plants and there are two completely separate stems and not joined further down in the pot.
i'd be tempted to make two plants out of them, but depends if you can get roots from both of them as cuttings don't work well with acers.

i'd let them grow out a bit and get stronger, as they are not very robust when small...

here's a atropurpureum a bit older with a similar stem to yours.
and some with a many branched trunk like my katsura look good when they grow out too.
