    decking posts in pond

    Hi,

I am planning my pond at the moment and have an idea of decking coming out over part of the pond which would mean putting posts in the pond to take the weight.

The question is has anyone tried this and if so how did you do it and what type of wood did you use?

trouble is untreated timber will rot very quickly in a pond and treated timber could be lethal to the fish.
You might get away with a piece of real solid oak but i wouldn't risk it, i would suggest getting a leg made up from stainless steel.

Unless you have a concrete base, then you could build brick piers and have them fibre glassed.

Use the cantilever method of construction, it's simple and nothing needs to go in the pond.
    Just google cantilever.

Have to agree with the above. However if your adamant that this is what youwant to do you could try G4 sealant or even firbe glass the posts. Just an idea.

    I used this from Canada

As my decking overlaps the pond and the filter is also underneath the other decking

    never had any problems

I think most of the people that have replied to this thread have probably left the forum by now as it was started over 5 years ago and the only member other than you and myself that I've seen posting in the last year or so is familyman

Good find though Jim so maybe worth starting a new thread that might get more attention?

That is a good find, might have to buy some for the pergola that my wife has planned for me to build next to the pond.
