New Addition - Omasako Tosai Kujaku
3 years since last adding a new Koi, then my Kirin purchase fell through (I'm still waiting for the right one) and suddenly without any thought I've gone and made an impulse purchase of a variety I've always liked but never really considered buying.
A Tosai Omosako Kujaku!
I know nothing about this variety, don't know if you should be looking for lighter more orangey colouration, as this one is clearly very deep red already, but I assume you don't want the matsuba netting to be too dark at this stage and I think on that front this looks Ok.
To be honest I just saw the video and it stood out to me over and above all the other Koi I'd been scrolling through.
In QT until end of May.

I don't know anything about desirable features of kujaku but I'd go so far as to say that's the prettiest kujaku I've ever seen.
Where did you buy it?

As per my post above, sadly the Omasako Kujaku didn't work out.
We were planning to collect during the Shosha Koi Tosai event and travelled up to Leicestershire the night before staying at a nearby hotel.
At around 8pm while settling down in the hotel room I get a text from Mike saying he took the fish out of the main pond and into one of the event vats to make it easier to catch for collection, and he noticed a problem with its mouth.
I was absolutely gutted.
Turned up on the day, and in all honesty it was extremely difficult to see the issue, took me a good 5 minutes of the koi being held out the water to make out what was going on. It was so minor I did wonder if I'd ever have actually noticed it. The mouth seems to close on one side slightly before the other side and whilst this was barely visible my concern was that it would be quite noticeable once the koi was knocking on 50 or 60cm. Additionally you don't know if it might get worse over time.
The decision was made not to go ahead, although I was still very tempted as the head was perfectly snowy white clean. Definitely great potential.
The event itself was fantastic, the quality of Koi really was top notch, but as crazy as it seems, I ended up swapping for a non-event koi that has been in stock since last year!
I think most regulars on here will know about my soft spot for Wada Kirin. I've been looking for a perfect one for over 2 years with no luck.
I came across a pond containing Wada Kujaku, and one Kujaku was lighter than all the others which arguably just has very weak colouration, but it had the exact same traits as my old Kirin that I sadly lost in 2023. I couldn't help wonder if this fish was a failed Kirin. Lee (Shosha) was pretty certain it came from a true Kujaku parent set, but I felt the gamble was worthwhile and took the plunge.
So here it is, a 46cm Wada Kujaku that I hope will lighten up and turn more Kirin in my pond....

Oh well. You could almost guarantee the other would have been a male with that colour Beni in tosai.
