Also, thanks for all the kind comments.
I've really enjoyed adding the updates to this thread.
Looking at them in the bowl last night and I can't believe they were the same koi feeding on "dust" in a 2x1 foot tank last summer! Now they take in 5 or 6 big 6mm pellets at a time with ease and are longer than the width of that tank!

Thanks John, much appreciated. Going to scrape her this weekend as she's not herself.
There's a few Kirin around if you look about. Gatwick Koi has some Nisai but obviously Tosai would be the cheaper option and I guess there will be some due in to various dealers this year once restrictions are over.

Gatwick's etc a long way for me Rs, maybe ask my local dealer what he can do.
Dont know why but I have allways loved the koi with yellow be it the Hariwake or a Kirin.
Went with stuffyrat to look at someone on here selling up and I saw one and said I want it !!!
Not the biggest or best in the pond but to me I wanted it, obviously Stuffy bought the rest in thereJohn

Gatwick are posting koi out with next morning delivery.
But when I think what I paid for mine and it's quality I'd struggled to justify paying what those Nisai are up for.
Maybe mine was cheaper to gain interest because it was a brand new variety.
Koi and water gardens have a stunning Kirin. Not cheap (£395 I think) and not a bright yellow one, but worth the money. Here's a video:

Maybe the flashing was caused by an ammonia spike...…………….got excited when the new one's went in
I've been known to have a little ammonia leak when I've got excited but don't tell anyone .
But their looking really nice RS...………….Well done.

Some pics showing the babies mingling in the pond, not great quality but ok.
Something I've learned:
They out compete all the others for food. They are so fast and accurate at grabbing pellets and I put this down to the strong current they've been raised in which I believe has helped growth and helped them become super agile and skilled at targeting floating food because they're used to grabbing food when its spiralling round the grow on at 50 miles an hour.
Don't know about everyone else, but while I know and appreciate the orange one is a mutt, it just has so much presence in the pond and really stands out amongst the crowd. This has really surprised me and I'm now questioning whether I should still move it on.
Sadly the "Shiro" has reddened up quite badly (can't see it clearly in the photo). It started to pink up before the inevitable ammonia spike but has got worse as ammonia went up to 0.5 mg/l. (According to Manky's chart 0.5 is beyond maximum acceptable limit in my PH and temps, so I'm trickling in/out to keep it at 0.25 or less). Could be a combination of stress and ammonia, but more the latter.
PIC 1 & 2 show: Orange one, little one and Shiro (and the Doitsu Ochiba which I transferred at the same time).
PIC 3 shows all 4.

Well done, been following this thread since the beginning. Awesome how they have turned out. Personally I really like the "mutt" too, I would struggle to move any of them on. Looking forward to seeing them develop even further.

I would give them a chance Rs, they will do well in the summer and see how they are this time next year.

15 in 2600 gals your fine mate, and with the drum it will get all the poo.
I have about 30 in 3000 gals,ok four big ones are sold and due to go next month but I have put in 13 small ones from winter grow on so quite a few in there.
I have found a good oxygen return works great,I dont use air in my pond only the bio and I dont feed loads, little and often is my motto and that can be maybe 10 times a day in the summer.
Same as you Rs,mussels, brown bread, mealworms shrimps etc. Several times a week.John

Thanks John.
Sounds like your overall regime is very similar to mine. I never used to run air in the pond but added some when the Koi were sulking last year. It made no difference to them but I just left it running anyway.
I will have 17 Koi by the end of the summer.
BTW, I scraped the Kirin and one other sulker but both scrapes were clean. Admittedly they were from the sides of the koi rather than near gills or pecs etc, but there was a good bit of mucus and no sign of anything.
I'm wondering if the ammonia spikes to around 0.25 or slightly higher are the problem. With high PH and increasing temps that level is not far from the danger zone according to manky's chart.
Oddly they mainly sulk in the mornings and overnight. They are usually (but not always) lively in late afternoon and early evening.
I ordered a pond bomb (not that I believe they work) and will try some Aqua Source Aqua Balance Vitalize after I read some impressive reviews on another thread.

I sit on my hands quite a bit as long as the water is ok,suppose koi are like us we have bad days or weeks and they usually pull through.
I do get sulkers and have one at the moment but I tend to keep a good eye on them and all of a sudden they are right as rain, strange.John

One of the babies has pinked up really bad (the Small shiro), almost completely red in certain lights. The big Shiro is a bit veiny as well.
Looks extremely sore, but she, and all the other Koi are acting normal and eating well. No behavioural signs of stress at all.
Ammonia spiked up to around 0.5 mg/l the day after babies were added which was kind of expected so I was on top of it and changed 4000 litres taking it down to 0.25mg/l and its stayed between 0 and 0.25 mg/l since.
Not levels that I'd normally be super worried about.
