down, she has done quite a write up / treatment for '' Sleeping sickness in Koi '' or failing that give her a
ring on...….01205723413...……….. Good luck.

Hi John,
I don't know a great deal about it myself, but the symptoms mentioned in the thread Ann told us about are very similar to mine:
https://www.koiforum.uk/koi-health-d...eping+sickness
I bought a lovely Tosai in March this year prior to viewing it, and the selling Dealer kept saying something wasn't right with this batchand asking if I could hold on a bit longer.
A Month later he says some of the fish in the batch have died, he believes they could have SS, can I wait a bit longer.
Another Month he says no more fish have died but these have got very skinny, can I wait a bit longer.
Another Month and he says he's been in discussion with Paula Reynolds, sent a few off to her, and confirmed they had sleeping sickness. He advised I didn't buy the fish as he felt it would never grow.
I've read many different things about it and various symptoms. All my symptoms have been associated with SS, depending on which article you read.
Some people say its a virus and all fry should go through it to prevent it later on (a bit like Chicken Pox I guess).
Honestly don't know any more than that, just the fish go to sleep, float around in the current, and I guess what mine are doing as in not responding to shadows over the water or noise etc. They'll eat food if it falls right in front of their eyes, but they don't go hunting for it.

Thanks Anne.
Will have a look.
Not 100% sure its sleeping sickness yet. I won't call Paula as I'd rather save that phone call for something major with the main Koi that is bound to come up in the future.
Was surprised that they're all still alive tonight - I think this could be another indication of SS. Looking at the state of them if it was a parasite or infection I'd have thought they'd be dead by now.
Not had a great year with the Koi.... Flukes, Costia, 2 or 3 injuries, the high-jumping Showa who thinks he's a Salmon, a big red lump on my Sanke and now this. I've done everything right too. Meanwhile the Fancy Goldfish are all whizzing around happy as larry.... Not had a problem with them (except genetics/hereditary) in best part of 9 or 10 years.
Doing partial water change on small pond now, then adding 0.3% salt. Don't have a heater for that pond so no heat, but they shouldn't drop below 20C and temps are due to rise later this week.

Not sure, it looks like a cross between fungus and extra thick mucus on one of them but I can't 100% couldn't pinpoint which. And the eyes have a cloudy coating over them too.
So whether that is skin peeling I've no idea.
They are swimming about, but I've been dipping a bucket in the water to take out some excess, and they simply don't react to it, just stay swimming about under the bucket (water only 45cm deep at the moment).
You'd expect them to go darting as far away as they could.

Is the water they are in the same as the main pond?
If so then the salt would go in the whole pond.
Can you not get them out and back in the tank or a large plastic container with air stones salt and heat,be better than staying where they are Rs.John

They're in separate water to the main pond so the salt is just in their bit.
Some fibreglass QT tanks on eBay at the moment, a job lot of 15 for £450 - A real bargain.
If I had a van and somewhere to put 15 tanks I'd take them and flog the other 14 individually.
Even just with a van I'm sure they'd sell separately if I just turned up and offered £40 for one.
But again, no van. Have access to work vans but they're tracked and a colleague already got sacked for using one for private use. Well, he did crash it too, at 97mph.

Forgot to mention, they're now salted to 0.3%.
Still not eating, but studying them tonight and they don't currently look like they're going to die.

Only managed a brief check on the fingerlings this morning and they all darted and hid when I approached the pond, so it looks like natural instinct is kicking back in, a definite improvement.
Also the brown one that kept floating up appeared to be swimming normally within the 30 seconds I watched him.
White one still has cloudy eyes but the skin looked better.
Smallest one looks like the pineconing is receding.
They didn't come back out for food so don't know if they're eating or not yet.

Fry are looking better tonight.
They swim off and hide when I shine a torch on them.
None are permanently bottom sitting.
All seem to be breathing out of both gills.
The raised scales on small one have gone down.
Things to improve;
They will eat if food falls directly in front of them, but aren't foraging for it.
White one still has cloudy eyes but skin is improving.
The brown one is still unbalanced (tail end floating upwards) but doesn't seem as bad.
They've not grown at all in the last 8 days that I can make out.
I'll keep them at 0.3% salt for a Week or so and go from there.
No photo updates this week due to no growth or colour changes and the fact they're still off-colour.

Still not sure what's going on. This morning all 4 laying on bottom, not responding to anything, even thought they might be dead, then tapped one of them with a bit of wood and they were all swimming round normally and continued to do so all day.
They ate well today and 3 of them foraging for food much of the day which is a positive development.
Looking to pick up an indoor QT tank this weekend and will transfer them back as being in the pond just isn't working for them.

Hi guys. Sorry been working last couple of days V long hours, and out this evening.
Yes I have a LWB high top van and a trailer?
Yes could be interested in a tank or two.
And RS, I have storage here if you bought the lot and wanted somewhere to keep them safe until you sold them individually.
Now going to bed out again at 6.30 tomorrow and I thought i was retired.
And possibly a bit late now, but I have 20KG bag of aquarium salt. I got a big bag as I was using it for my fry, but stopped using it before I needed to open the 20KG bag. So if you need some RS its here.Last edited by Dudley; 02-08-2019 at 01:06 AM.

Thanks Dudley that's very kind of you.
My salt is being delivered by Yodel... Was due Tuesday but is still showing as at their hub and expected Saturday.
Had to buy salt from local garden centre... £14 for 2.5kg gulp.
Those QT tanks are in Sittingbourne, they are smaller than they look, around 120x60, but still big enough to raise fry. I've managed to borrow a van for Saturday and the guy agreed to split the job lot so going to pick a couple up then. Let me know if you want one and I'll grab you one.
Haven't negotiated price yet, but guessing individually he'll want £30-£40 each.
