Overdue another update.
Had to bowl a few Koi for scrapes which gave a good opportunity to get an update to the one I kept on.
Only a measly 3cm growth since last July's update. I would say this is due to all the months with minimal food going in due to the house move and the koi being in storage and only fed once a week for 3 Months.
Then on top of that they are now in a new pond which needs maturing, and the Trichodina treatment I'm about to administer will delay that further.
Anyway enough rambling, onto the photo.....
Exactly 3 years to the day of the spawning (18th May 2019), now at 45cm:
Will the Sumi ever fill in? I really don't know. Being from Dainichi x Sekiguchi parents one would hope she's a slow burner and it will come in the end, but it really is a waiting game as I just don't know.

Apparently Isa Showa don't get the good sumi starting to come through for 3-4 years, and Ueno showa can take 9-10 years to finish, so you have a bit of time to go yet It's looking great though you have a cracker there! I think seeing this fish before is what made me want one of my own!

Hi John,
Yeah, same Koi as from the beginning of the thread, the one on the left in this photo at around 4 weeks old.

And here she is at around 7 weeks old:

Maybe a little bigger than 45cm as you suggest, since I always measure with nose touching the bowl, but the tape measure doesn't start until about 1 or 2cm into the bowl.Last edited by RS2OOO; 26-05-2022 at 10:36 AM.

By the way, not sure if I've mentioned before, but a funny story.
I moved the other "fry" on at around 1 year old in 2020.
I'm also in a Whatsapp group where a Koi wheeler Dealer tries to sell anything Koi related at usually inflated prices. Has Koi for sale all the time. Anyway, one day he sends photos of around 30 "high quality" koi he's selling for clients, and 3 of them were the "fry" I'd moved on. He had the black and white one listed as a high quality Shiro Utsuri for £100 and the other 2 for around £60 each.
I messaged back to say I'd given these away and where did he get them from, but he wouldn't say, only to keep banging on about what great potential they have and that I should really consider buying them lol.

Steve the tancho Showa looks fantastic!
The sumi is definitely filling in and I’m confident it will finish although I do actually really like the Kage type sumi it has.
Looking forward to seeing this one develop over the years!

Been thinking about bowling her for another update.
Tried to catch her for a scrape but ended up with another Koi of the same size in the net.
That one measured at 56cm and I'd say the Tancho is slightly bigger.
Not many people can say they've added almost 60cm to a Koi haha.
Hopefully will get pics soon. She doesn't look as good as she used to, and has a growth inside the mouth that won't go away and seems to get bigger each year, but she's still a keeper and I don't think I'd ever part with her.

Hi is this still available? Thanks
