I've ditched LV on nearly all my insurance policies now, they bumped up the premuims by 70- 100%

car insururance quote went from 450 to 760 eventually went with direct line for 350
    buildings from 106 to 210

same with wife car and other house policies. all bar the missus car now with other insurer's
LV didn't even try to retain me when i called up to cancel, the call centre staff obviously know their prices are off the scale and can't compete...

Insurance is a joke isn't it, mine went up from 450-665 on the renewal so have just canceled. This was with Aviva, going to look today/tomorrow for others, I know I can get Hastings direct for 400 if I stick a black box in the car

Any independant insurers I should try?

I think I paid about 500 for my 12 plate Astra van which is fully comp and full business use and slightly lower for my 17 plate Focus RS fully comp private use only. I'm with Keith Michaels and deal with a guy called Christian Wheatley. I'll see if I can find their number for you and put it on here.

    Good luck

I think they're only open Monday to Friday. I know some insurance companies and brokers work on a Saturday aswell.

That number is his direct line and very often I have to leave a voice mail and he rings me back. They are normally pretty quick at sending stuff out to you as in I can speak to him in the afternoon and the paperwork arrives the next day. Although that was before the current mail delivery issues that everyone seems to be getting now.

years ago you needed specialist car insurance for your modified remapped hot hatch, type R, golf gti, or R32.
now you need it for vans because the cops can't catch any car thieves....

A lot of insurance companies wouldn't insure Evos etc as they were classed as having supercar performance at family car prices. Not many family saloons were capable of 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 mph

it's amazing how cars have increased in performance over the years.
    look at a BMW M3 E30 vs a bog standard BMW 320D F30
very close considering how fast the M3 was in it's day....

I know what you mean Dave. My Evo 9 was a 55 plate and only a 2 litre turbo charged engine plus it had 4WD which tends to be slightly slower off the line unless you are willing to give it the beans and side step the clutch lol it started out as an FQ300 then went up to 400 bhp and then 700 bhp. Apparently it's still going but now getting nearer to 800 bhp

I think the 9s or the 9.5s were the last of the mega quick ones off the peg as the 10s used an unproven alley block instead of the tried and tested cast iron blocks. They also went semi auto I think with flappy paddle shifters. They weren't as quick as the 9s. Started to get too big which also made them too heavy.

Diesel engines have really made big progress as the early ones were rattlely and sluggish. My 12 plate van is pretty quiet and for what it is pretty quick specially if it's empty. I drove a similar sized 72 plate Caddy last year and that was noticeably quicker and smoother. Shame they stopped making the Astra van and went with the Combo instead

They're probably claiming for a new bumper plus it has to be painted with the correct type of paint because it's plastic then there's labour and VAT so at first glance it sounds a bit OTT but at the end of the day it's probably about right as that bumper's a few hundred quid without all the fixtures and fittings etc. Might be worth asking for a full breakdown of the quote assuming they are allowed to tell you?

Amazingly I looked at a few companies and ended up getting quoted 453 with, you guessed it, Aviva but this time Aviva zero. So I am with the same company for more or less the exact same price I paid last year
