Says a lot about the kind of society we live in...

    democracy...? no...
if it is against the will of the people, thats an authoritarian state...

we never had a democracy in this country,
pariament became a 'democracy' set up for the landed gentry in 1832 for 7% of the population of men only.

all we get to vote for now is what colour tie the government wear...blue, red, or yellow/orange.
the same people (civil servants) effectively 'run' the country regardless of who you vote for...
the outcome is always the same....

Got my first ticket ever New Years Day 2022.

Got called out for an emergency work job after which I had to travel from North West London to East London to drop off the van.

Going round the north circular which I've done 10's of times before, a small stretch that has been 40 for as long as I can remember had been reduce to 30 and I didn't notice (and still couldn't see the signs when I subsequently had another job up that way and was actively looking).

Got done doing just 33mph and to rub salt in the wound there wasn't another single vehicle on the road as far as the eye could see when they sent the photos through.

But its swings and roundabouts, years ago I was doing 52 in a 40 and spotted the side of the mobile camera van hidden behind bushes about 1/2 mile up the road and instantly slammed on the anchors. Policeman said, "The fact that you were so aware of your surroundings that you spotted us from that distance, I'm going to let you off with just a warning this time".

In urban areas I spend more of my concentration looking for speed limits and signs than actually focusing on the road. It has gone beyond ridiculous, more so for older Drivers above say 35 because roads that were once National Speed Limit got reduced to 50, and now a lot going down to 40.

Same with dual carriage ways around London that were always 40, then reduced to 30 about 10 years ago, and now a significant number of them have been reduced to 20, which is extremely difficult to stick to having gone along them at 45+ for years and now travelling on them when they are empty in the early hours of the morning constantly speedo watching.
