Probably a silly car question
I've only ever had old beat up tanks for motors . Four trak ect . Now we have a fl2 with far to many toys and auto bits
( I consider it posh from what am used to lol )
1, So push button start on a cold morning?? How do you heat your plugs or dose it just do it its self ??
2, being auto what's best practice for traffic lights , just keep in D and foot on brake or in to neutral. Heard swopping cab damage the box??

now that can only be one of three problems. radio on its way out but id go for aerial lose in back of radio or aerial lose on roof or even missing as mine was the other month. someone helped them self to my aerial still got a signal but quality was hit and miss went to wash car and hay presto no aerial. most radios these days you need special tools to get radio out its a two minute job for someone with the right gear.

I've got no personal experience with Land Rovers but, coincidentally yesterday, my wife, Sue, bumped into our previous neighbour before we moved 35 years ago. They swapped the usual information and, one of the things she told Sue was that they still have the Land Rover that was at least ten years old when we moved!!
So Johnathan, please give us an update in 45 years time

no idea about the landy auto but had my BMW sport auto for 10 years now, wouln't go back to manual.
got the best of both...comfort, sport and eco, auto for wafting around in traffic plus sequential 8 speed manual shift for sport plus.
only time i go into neutral is when i'm parked, just hold foot on brake at junctions traffic ect...even hill starts are auto, but i still have a handbrake for doughnuts in the snow
the car has an anti-roll away feature, which if you roll 1mm in neutral you have to turn the engine off, put it in park, and start from scratch...
or it won't engage drive and keeps throwing warning lights and noises everywhereLast edited by davethefish1; 09-12-2022 at 04:21 PM.

As for Diesel autos.....
First one I ever drove was a 5 door Suzuki Vitara - totally different animal to the 3 doors that were a fashion accessory at the time.
It genuinely amazed me at how smooth it was compared to any petrol auto I'd previously driven.
The wife drives an auto, so when I bought her a car for her 40th I went for a Diesel F20 1 series. It drives so well.
Combination of an auto box on a Diesel is sublime.
Now they've announced ULEZ is expanding next year she's sadly going to have to either pay £12.50 a day to go to work or sell it and get a petrol. Will be gutted to part with it, it is a fantastic little car.

On our second automatic a Toyota Corolla fantastic car and wouldn't go back to an manual.
Stopping at lights I leave in D ,not a mechanic but believe they have a centrifugal clutch so ok there.
Not familiar with the Land rover so cant help you much there Jonathan.John

Wife gone to start car up this morning, pressed the push button start, and a sign came up on dash saying "WAIT - PRE-HEATING"
6 or 7 seconds later the car started.
So there's your answer, with a push button start it will preheat plugs with the length of time based around ambient temps.
First time this has happened in 4 years of owning the car, but it is still -3 out there.
