Water bill rebate
Just checking to see if the percentage I'm getting as a rebate sounds about right or maybe a bit low.
I registered for a rebate for what gets used on the pond and not put back into the sewers earlier in year and have been given a 21% rebate. Considering the filters get cleaned properly on average twice a week and the skimmer line gets a quick flush every day that rebate seems a bit low to me. I know it's a difficult figure to gauge as pond sizes and filter system sizes vary considerably so was just after a ball park figure to see if I am not getting a big enough rebate?
We have a smallish 3 bed semi detached house and there's just the 2 of us living in it and our 6 monthly bill shows we used 105 cubic meters between June and December so the 21% rebate brings the sewage figure down to about 82 cubic meters.
We probably have an average water usage before allowing for the pond so am interested to hear what others are getting as a rebate percentage.

I put a sub metre on the outside tap and was refunded for the use on that which was a fair amount, nearly half my bill if I remember correctly

I've got a sub meter too but it does register much below about 1 lpm which annoyingly my top up system would only handle about 1.5 lpm max so the last 100 or so litres wouldn't register so wasn't getting a full top up reading if that makes sense? Then I change the top up system which would allow me to flow the top up at about 5 lpm and would register much more of each top up. Unfortunately I gave the meter readings before swapping the top up systems so maybe I could see if they will give me an updated percentage figure? Might give that a go when I get the QT system finished and working

My rebate doesn't work as a percentage.
My situation is different to most as I pay bills to 2 companies. One who supplies water and another who takes it away.
I give the latter one my pond meter reading and they simply deduct that from the bill.
For example:
Waste water is charged at 90% of your supply water volume.
If I use 100,000 litres, I get charged waste water on 90,000 litres.
Then I give my pond meter reading of 50,000 litres and they reduce my wastewater bill to 40,000 litres.
So I'm now paying for 100,000 litres to the supplier, and 40,000 litres to the drainage company.
The calcs are slightly more complex than that but you get the idea.
Twice a year I take a photo of the secondary pond meter reading, and ring them up 3 weeks before my 6 monthly bill date to make the adjustments.

I had no idea I could claim a rebate on the waste water. Is it pretty simple to get set up do you have to have a home visit initially?
The ones of you that have sub meters were these fitted by the water company or do they just accept what you tell them you have used?

No it's easy Mike, I just filled in an online form for the company that deals with my waste water then gave them some meter readings and the online form asks about pond size and why you want a rebate or something like that. I just put filter cleans and top ups etc. The meter should be a WRAS? approved meter permanently fitted I think but no site visit required.
This was my way of getting it done others may have to do different things depending on their water suppliers and sewage water removal company or companies.

Thanks frim, I?ll look into it further. I?m with Thames water for both supply and waste so hopefully that simplifies it.
Not sure why the forum has started replacing apostrophes and pound signs with ? It?s pretty annoying. Could be Tapatalk
