2022 Choice this year? What's yours?
So after the dismal water colouring and fish performance of JPD 'colour' last year leading to the return to a Medikoi, although not the probiotic in previous seasons but a blend of Wheatgerm and Health. I still have enough for at least 6 months and I'm likely to stick with it.
I will look at options for spirullia, but it seems near impossible to find pure flakes or pellets of the stuff.

I got a bag of powdered spirullia off the bay for my fry and and roll the pellets around in it with some bactoplus food spray .
Sam gave me the idea as he did the same only with salmon oil instead of the food spray .
It's cheap as chips and a little go's a long way

Everyone is throwing their hard earned at Saki Hikari Colour Food this year.
Even places the don't usually stock it have been selling it, and going out of stock.
Can't think why the sudden interest

Just received a large bag of Medikoi wheatgerm. So we’re onto the lower temp feeding regimen. I still have plenty of the health for next year. Possibly not need more if blended with the wheatgerm!

Mine have been on aquasource this year, very impressed. Definitely less waste compared to some of the queni food and medikoi in my opinion. They had hi-growth all summer and balance plus this autumn, which can be fed down to 8c so plan to use that right through to next summer. Plus the usual supply of more natural foods.

after countless hours researching....
my attitude to koi food is unless they say what factory actually makes the pellets... it's made by coppens.
the only possible reason for all the secrecy and not saying where the pellets are actually made, is to fool people into buying a product thats made by coppens....
not that coppens is bad at all... but why pay a premium for repackaging?
saki hikari has the actual manufacturing plant named on each bag.
and they are not all the same, as they have more than one manufacturing plant.
for me it's not just about what factory extruded the base ingredients into a pellet.
but what and where those range of ingredients come from?Last edited by davethefish1; 19-11-2022 at 06:16 PM.

just had a quick look at takazumi pricing...
takazumi growth or mix or vital is about Ł9.70/kg for 10kgs vs Ł11.33/kg for 15kgs saki growth, or Ł10.13/kg for saki balance.
up to you mate
but i wouldn't want to pay similar kind of money for a food without a proven track record and evidence.Last edited by davethefish1; 19-11-2022 at 08:12 PM.

Funnily enough - popped into the local place to get some food, enough to tide over to next year but the bag of NTLabs Heath didn't have a date sticker on It (usually they do), so rather than pay for an out of date bag I decided to try Hikari Gold for once.
I've mixed up the Hakari Gold with the remainders of the NTLabs Wheatgerm, Oase small koi food and spirrulla disks into the small 5l tub that I use for daily feeding.
Let's see what happens..14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

i've actually thought if i have to drop the saki next year due to cost, going on the hikari staple and gold...
lower protein of 34% for older fish works better too...
hikari staple can be had for as little as Ł67 for 10kg including delivery
