Winter foods
Had a search but couldn't find any conclusive answer as to what feed people feel is best . I know to opt for the weat Germ but with that many ingredient mixes by producers . Is there a good decent food in the mid price range. not looking to spend the silly money on the saki foods ect

I've just had a delivery from Gaz. I went with Aqua Source Ultimate All Season which is ok down to 8 degrees, and Aqua Source Wheatgerm for when it's a bit colder.
Good price and very speedy delivery

I will need to get some wheatgerm myself soon, thinking I will add garlic paste to it through winter and spring as read a fair few people on the encyclopaedia of facebook claim that they have had zero parasite issues and only use garlic puree or paste on the pellets. Soak them in it till they draw it in or smack a little 3 pack mesh bag with a hammer and leave it in the filter. Not sure if it is effective at all but seems to be a lot of people who claim it's effectiveness. Can't do any harm right?

I've been using NT Labs MediKoi Wheatgerm with Garlic and some Probites Summer. Going to try that Aquasource multi season though

I've just ordered some wheatgerm for my pond.
On the garlic front, whilst I do think it probably helps repel parasites from the fish, and fish seem to love garlic flavoured foods, I don't think it actually keeps the fish parasite free.
I put garlic on wheatgerm pellet last winter and that did bugger all in terms of the Trich that I found in the pond.
But then again, the Trich resisted 2 (and possibly 3) doses of strong PP. And if they can survive that, I doubt a bit of garlic would touch the sides with these buggers.

Don't think they will ever be able to make some thing to completely repel them but if it can help a touch am all for it really . . Definitely going with added garlic and not heated as such but will be making swings as small as possible with a 3kw in line joby

I've been adding Seachem Garlic additive to the food for the last couple of months. It stinks, the fish love it and at the moment no flukes. Not really sure how effective it is but given the problems I;ve had with parasites over the last two seasons, thought it was worth a try.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
