    Koi not eating there staple

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar been feeding my koi the Queni koi premium growth during warmer months and have been for around 2/3 years this year they have really not taken a liking to it after 15minutes pretty much 90% still left floating in the pond. Yet if I put koi treat mealworms/pupae etc in it’s gone in seconds and if I make up a pearl barley mix with garlic and clay same results gone in just a few minutes.
Obvious thing seems to be to try a new food just wanted a few other peoples thoughts ?

    Cheers

    John

what temperature are you at, and how old is the food?

mine stopped eating from a 6kg bag of japan mix i only had opened a couple of months before.
there wasn't much left, so i opened a new sealed 15kg bag of japan mix and they were straight on it...
and i'd only feed high protein growth food above 20C

Also bag of food was a 15kg bag been in 2 sealed containers since May I hate waste but only had about another 3/4 days of that food left anyway so just chucked it already got a 3kg tub of wheat germ so il start on that, I’m currently feeding twice a day 7-8am and 6-7pm. I will have to cut the amount I feed down though as just moved on 6 koi today to a friends pond

If you have moved some on they may just be stressed from the netting of others, may need to just settle down??

Only netted the fish out today, they haven’t been eating there usual food for about 10-12 weeks only thing that happend around that time was I did a fluke solve plus treatment I cut there feed down for this for around a fortnight at that time. Going to feed them the queni koi sinking wheat germ I got tomorrow now see how they get on with that

Try soaking the food mate so it sinks and see if that makes a difference.

    Cheers

I fed the queni koi wheat germ this morning and they eat that no problem at all, maybe other food had just gone stale Koi not eating there staple

I found that food has a limited life when exposed to air so I now use a small 5l container with a flap and sealed for the daily feeds then when it's empty mix up a new mix from the 10Kg tub. That way the food in the 10Kg tub stays fresh in a cool place.

Yeah that’s exactly what I do I bought a 15kg sack though so split it into 2 10kg tubs left in the garage and would just fill up a small resealable 3kg tub for feeding from every day. No problems on previous years might just buy in smaller quantity next year as not going to have as many fish either

Any advice anyone, koi still being really picky with there eating feeding a small amount of wheat germ twice a day 7:30am and 4pm pond temp 16 degrees.
When I get back from work foods gone, was off this morning so I checked an hour later and all still on the bottom this is a new 3kg tub of queni koi wheat germ there on.
I just know if I was to mix up pearl barley and garlic it would all be devoured in seconds, got too small koi from the show haven’t seen them eat as yet either. Didn’t know wether feeding the pearl barley would be ok this time of the year? Ideally want the new koi to be settled ready for winter as pond not heated or covered so usually stop feeding November/December when pond reaches about 5-7degrees

    Cheers macca

    Hi Macca,

I use and Retail Aquasource All Season with Propolis. My personal koi and stock fish through my business have this through the year with HG mixed during the warmer. Months. The all season food can be fed down to 8 degrees assuming the koi are active.

I see your comment of the food being gone when you returned from work. Ideally the food would not be left on / in the pond for lengths of time so may be worth staying present and clearing of not eaten within 5 minutes until you get them feeding more happily again.

    Cheers
