Looking for a no mess food - currently using Medikoi Probiotic
Just looking for a good quality stable food that I can blend in - preferably 3-5kg. Would prefer it to have more koi natural ingredients - not sure if I've seen koi eating chicken for example. I'm not super worried about growing, more healthy koi and colour so spirullia is good in the mix (also a favourite when I've given them flakes).
I tend to switch to wheatgerm etc for winter if they do want anything.
I remember PMF was supposedly decent but it seems to be OOO on eBay from my last check.

I think in the interim, I'll probably try some Coppens in 1Kg bags (some places will break out the 16Kg bags) and that will keep me tied over until the winter switch to wheatgerm. I'll probably buy about 8-12Kg next year with the larger pond.
I like Medikoi btw, the fish are looking good and seem in good spirits, just I'll probably buy smaller amounts but mix.

as said coppens OSW or top koi.
Queni food is basically the same and available in smaller sealed bags or buckets and they're doing free next day delivery over £15

top koi = Ultimate koi
and OSW closest would probably be Ultimate mix though i did read a review on here that said it browned the water a bit....
i use Ultimate Koi and Colour plus in a 3 : 1 ratio.

Initial impression of the Yamato Nishi Colour food - large pellet 7mm is that it's far larger than the '6mm' Medikoi Probiotic. I bit like fishy gobstoppers The pellet seems drier than the medikoi and less dense.
The fish ploughed in.. then you could sort of see confusion with trying to get the normal amount of food in one mouth.. is more difficult with the large pellet. Then the - well that's not the normal stuff.. 5 minutes pass and they're munching away happily. They are taking longer to chew the food but it seems a hit. Even the "I love my greens" ghost is happily chewing away on them.
So so far - from the first feed - thumbs up. Will have to wait until it passes through to see if it causes mess!
In terms of size - I would say your koi need to be a foot long. I suspect that the tench may have issues.
Not sure if the water has tinted brown - will check under better light tomorrow..
Edit: Well they finally started eating it.. as always, they normally take time to get used to the new food. Also the pond seems normal colour in sunlight.14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

So after a season and a bag I thought I'd conclude this with a final update on the Yamato.
The fish all now eat this, and I found they appear well and eat easily enough. Colour wise I would say they have colour but I think they looked healthier on the Medikoi.
Now to the down side - the Yamato quickly tinted the water brown if there was uneaten food. In a pellets-in-a-tube vs the medikoi it was quite obvious of the pellets tinting the water in the test tubes.
The Yamoto also ended up with a lot more ash and waste. Thankfully the drum removed this quickly, but the drum was flushing more regularly than with the Medikoi.
So this year seems to be a possible Medikoi year.. I only have mongrels, and I'm focused on health rather than maximum growth. So I think I'll get a mix with medikoi and second feed. I won't be going JPD/Yamoto again.
I may go for a 50:50 OSW and Medikoi Health or Probiotic. Time to have a look at start ordering.
Edit, looking at the prices:
Coppens OSW 5Kg 6mm £23
Medikoi Probiotic 5Kg 6mm £70
Medikoi Health 5Kg 6mm £50
They'll probably consume 5-8Kg over the year. So Health and OSW would give me 10Kg at £7/Kg vs £10/Kg for OSW:Probiotic is probably an easier cost to swallow if you excuse the pun.
In the end I've ordered:
* 5Kg Medikoi Health
* 3Kg Medikoi Wheatgerm
So £82 for 8Kg, so £10/Kg but I was swayed by the comments of bad waste with OSW.
That will be blended so more weatgerm now, less in summer, more in autumn.14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)
