I can not remember in any of my koi books info on how long it takes food to transit a koi's digestive track to production of associated ammonia and excretion of feces. I know it would vary by size of. the koi, water temp, and other variables. But does anyone remember seeing an "expect" document that process with ballpark timeframes?

I will be showing some koi next weekend and someone from the show told everyone to stop feeding today to avoid ammonia and feces in the tanks next weekend. Strikes me that it does not take 5+ days for food to pass through even a size 9 koi. I would guess 24 hours to transit the gut with with ammonia starting to be produced in 4-6 hours. This is in summer warm water around 80F.

Sorry if this the wrong forum for this question.
