Hi John you know what life’s like, sometimes the koi have to take a back seat and not get as much attention as I used to. But I’m back on the ball again now.

thought i'd zombie this thread rather than start a new one...
just got some mealworm to try my fish on.
pretty cheap compared to the price i'd seen at koi shops.
poundstretcher do a really big bag/sack about 2 kilo iirc for £9.99
i just got a small bucket to try them on first see how they like it...400g for £3.

I go through a lot of mealworms and allways shopping about as the koi love them.
At the moment the grow ons are loving them from Home bargains.
I thought Poundstretcher had finished trading.John

the greedy ones went straight for them, some of the others are a bit nibbly with them. might just need to get used to them.
might have...
if not pound stretcher, land, one of the cheapy shops in town...
there's that many these day...

They say there is a lot of goodness in them which is hard to see as they are hollow, but they love them at all times which is good enough for me,I crush a handful so the smaller koi can get some.

I pay around £10 for 2kg and quality seems to be no different to more expensive ones.
Bit more if you want them delivered. Here's some I recently bought, £11.89 for 2 kg, equating to 59p per 100 grams delivered:

If you keep them in your watch list they do them on offer at 2kg for 9.99 delivered every now and again.Last edited by RS2OOO; 14-01-2020 at 09:17 PM.

I found them for £7.50 a kilo at a independent pet shop in felixstowe yesterday called conkers. Although this 12.5k bag was £75 I think or maybe £79.99 if anyone wants to stock up!

Forget the dried ones, get a pot of live mealworms, your koi will love you forever. Mine go absolutely mental.

Bought a tub of Mealworm today. Some of the fish took to them straight away and can't seem to get enough. Others are somewhat suspicious of them

I tried live mealworms on a mixed pond with koi, red eared turtles, and goldfish but found several undigested mealworms (mealworms with a slime coating) the next day. Is this a problem? The turtles are more keen than the fish. Should I stop, slow down?

Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
