    green water

hi there my pond has been up and running for about 3 years now it is 4300 gallons with a nexus310,sequence 12000 and a yamitsu 55 watt uv my water went green about 4 weeks ago changed the tube just over 2 weeks ago but with no success any advice greatly received before i go and spend more on a bigger uv

I'm not sure of the internal of a yamatsui, but it must have a quartze sleeve of some kind. I would think this perhaps needs taking out and cleaning or replacing.

thanks for the reply when i changed the bulb i also had a look at the quartz tube and it looked okay (very clear) so am at a bit of a loss, unless i am at the limit with the uv and with the supburb weather has tipped me over the edge if you see what i mean

I've got a tmc 55 w uv and they seem to be excellent.they can handle high flow rates but I don't think the yamitsu can handle as high flow rates. if you can't find the reason maybe try a tmc 55w. Good luck

Perhaps you are on the verge... we've 5000g and have a TMC 110w which might be over the top, but every year we have had green water until we clean and replace the bulbs. Especially if we've treated for Bweed which also mists the sleeves up.

thanks Dawn i will see what my local dealer thinks as the rule of 10watts per 1000 gallons goes out of the window about where we are,am also in full sun so something else against, just worries me as i can't see whats going on thanks again

I was in the same boat a few months ago. Green water always gives me high ph and nitrates too. So I was having big issues there. Then they decided to spawn too and the ammonia went through the roof resulting in burn on one fish

It's not nice when you can't see them.

Don't buy the 'green away' type products though. Never worked for me and wasted around £100 trying... new quartze sleeves and tubes, around 8 days later and clear water.

just have a check if your yamitsu has not given up on you. you may be able to repair it? but if it has then get a tmc 55w i have one on mine in full sun and it keeps the water gin clear.

i had to change the bulb last week as the water had gone green, but it only took a week to clear.

i also have a 55 watt tmc on my 3500 gallon pond, and i get no green water , although earlier this year i only had a 30 watt and my nexus was blocking up with algae , now i have the 55 watt and no algae ,and water is crystal clear.
