When we had a bad winter the year before last, I actually found mine clamped at 6-8 degrees on the bottom regularly, but the water temp got down to 0.4 according to the thermometer and they was actually moving about more then, probably because they had to but all made it through the winter no problem. I was uncovered then too.

Last few days posts don't make great reading!
Tbh I've never seen my koi fully clamped up due to cold temps so that would concern me.
Was at 8C today, and they fed twice, 60g in total. Possibly that was a mistake as I expect another degree to be dropped off by morning.
Being a new pond I have concerns about exposed pipework freezing up, hopefully not enough to burst, but the drum waste pipe will likely freeze and back up into the macerator and burn that out if I'm not careful.
Ironically I've insulated most pipework inside the filter pit, but not so much outside as it's difficult to get to.

Mine is at 12C with external temp at -2C. Pond is unheated but insulated and covered with 35mm 7cell polycarbonate. I’ve got to move them to a temporary pond shortly when we move house and am very concerned about the temp drop.

Pond fluctuating between 11c and 12c but ASHP coming on every 18 hours.... fish still active but have slowed down, having a very light munch once or twice a day, water very clear drum only activating every 250 mins used to be every 30/40 mins..... paramaters are still good thankfully i was concerned the last time i deep cleaned might of knocked the filters back a bit as i used PP but jap matting and shower bio has recovered...... going to be a long old winter for them.... KH has dropped so will be adding some SB today... PH has dropped a bit so will be monitoring that......

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
