21.9 in mine this morning, still clinging onto summer but continuously covered. 22 tomorrow so may have the covers off for the afternoon to try and get a bit of a boost. Cooler going into the end of the week, 16 in the day and 8/9 at night! Hoping when the wind changes it warms up again or we could be entering autumn already!

still holding up to 24C but slips down to 23C during the day when the covers are off,
poly covers are on from 11pm to 8am, and the 1kw heater does 7 hours on economy 7.
i'll probably keep this up while it's still warm enough to go outside and enjoy the fish in the open air.
but once the weather drops down into the mid teens in the day, the covers will stay on.

Mine is always covered at the mo as cutting slabs and mixing cement means there's plenty of shite blown about on the wind so don't want to risk it going in the pond. One day it will all be finished and I might get 5 minutes to enjoy the pond before the next job will begin

I love the North!! Pond at 15.5 this morning and weather man is saying 5 over night for this week !! . So my winter prep will be getting done early so I can bowl, scope and treat if needed before the temps drop to low to treat

Ordered 5k of balance today to switch to as the growth runs out. Still around 21.8 and have about 1/4 of the feeder full of growth, so will top up with the balance so it naturally mixes and changes entirely to balance over the next week or so. Picking back up to 18/19 after a few cooler days over the weekend so hopefully still manage to stay over 20 for a bit longer at least and may sneak the heater on here and there if needed, nows the time to extend the season if I am going to spend the money on heating at all.

same here the heater is on for 7 hours a day on economy 7 to extend the season.
what i'm aiming to do is support the temps with poly covers and heater to extend the growing season a bit.
but once the temps start dropping and i can't easily keep them above 18C
and it starts getting properly cold in november let the temperature fall steadily over a few weeks to ambient,
which was about 12C all last winter covered...
hoping for another mild winter,
but historically long hot summers have been followed by very cold snowy winters....Last edited by davethefish1; 15-09-2022 at 08:57 PM.

Our forecast shows temp dropping down to 5C tomorrow so covers have gone on this morning. I can’t afford to heat the pond this year. I’m actually contemplating giving up and selling everything. Which is very sad as I have had some of my fish for 25years…all of them (except the albino grass carp and one rejoined goldfish) from Koi Water Barn who used to be my local dealer and I’ve stuck with buying fish from ever since.

Rather bright here this morning so lots of reflections on the water from the last photos before covering it over.Last edited by DiabloDave; 16-09-2022 at 09:27 AM.

Would be such a shame to give up after so long. You certainly won't be the last person to do it given the current climate! I do wonder if a lot of people will give up now and hopefully in the not too distant future the energy prices recover and they regret shutting their ponds.

if i ever shut my pond down it would be more to do with virtually untreatable parasites and the secondary bacterial infections they cause.
i was speaking to an old reef keeping mate yesterday who also has a koi pond,
3ft deep, 2000 gallon, pumped, simply run on an easy pod and diy moving bed.
has about 30 fish and never has any problems.
but hasn't bought any new fish for years....
no new fish = no new resistant parasites = no issues....

one of the toughest guys i used to fished with 'commando kev' was in his 60's and always wore shorts,
even social at yateley in february when the lake froze over, and we had 4" of snow
i bottled it on sunday morning and went home after doing two nights,
as my toes and finger tips had started to turn red...Last edited by davethefish1; 17-09-2022 at 11:54 AM.

that sounds like my kind of fishing 25C plus
when i went carp fishing in france years ago we had some cracking weather for early may...
left blighty at 15C and had 30C all week at vitry le francois...had a couple of nightmare thunder storms though,
one so bad we all legged it back to the Lake's Cabin
think we done over a ton in bait between us, i had 70kg boiles and a 100kg of particles
