South Norfolk
Well it certainly feels like winter has arrived! Just bracing for the blustery snow/rainy weekend forecast for us here in East Anglia, will wait & see
Out in the open @1150 its 8.0°c & 95% Rh, in the shade its (sic) 6.4°c, the Polytunnel has been mostly closed up (about 98% of the time) apart from checking on Koi & topping up my feeder. Temperatures dropping to single digits night & day plus winds, but my pond has only recently dropped below 10°, inside the PT its currently 9.8°c & the pond holding valiantly to 9.6°c.
Koi are still on two feeds a day, all season & wheatgerm with garlic, perhaps next week down to one feed/day?
Been distracted by lots of jobs needed doing, after treatments, left me quite weak & tiring easily, I think it will take me about another year to catch up?
Three Jabs + Flu Jab.
Stay Lucky you guys
If I don’t get on here for a while Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.

Yep had the snow all today stopped for now but more on its way but temps have dropped big time so all the snow will freeze making it very naughty come tomorrow morning . Waiting almost 2 weeks for a 48hr delivery of rubber boots to sort heater out not a happy bunny to say the least.. . Wind has done a lot of damage around me but some how the pond cover is 100% .

Mine dropped down to 7.5c in Essex. Covered and insulated, but doesn’t get much sun in winter ☹️ There were a few running aquarium heaters last year, anyone still trying that out?

smartin had a small aquarium heater in his before getting an ASHP,
and i ran my old pond with a few 200w heaters for a bit before getting an electro.
anything would help hold a degree or 2 more than without.
how many gallons have you got?
the only problem i found with glass heaters was they would heat up for so long and then turn 'off' on some kind of internal high limit type stat.
even though the 'on' light stayed lit.
even when turned up to the max setting of 30c on the heater.
probably because the glass tube couldn't convect the heat away fast enough...
a stainless steel aquarium/pond heater might be better at convecting the heat than a glass one though...
i've seen these 600w stainless pond heaters before but not tried them though...

Cheers, it’s 4500 gallons. I’ve got a 300w eheim jäger heater and ink bird controller funnily enough that I’ve just set up and set to 7.5 given the cold night ahead. See what temp is like in morning (not hoping for much!).
I’ve seen a second hand 3kw elecro nano for sale (from a pool though) that I could get just in case we get a really cold winter. I’d probably only want to keep at 8c. Sure like the rest of us, cost of electricity is a big factor now!
