I'm deffo going to try and sort something out for next year with covers.. Chags are ace.. my one just comes to the side of the pond with its gob opening and closing till I pour food straight in its mouth lol. Think it will take from the hand no bother but leaving that till warmer weather... think I need a second chag to keep it company .. its pal (pretty sure it was the other one they had in when I chose this one) was in love aquatics black friday sale so if the pond had been warmer I reckon I'd have given in lol.

    I'm now running a 600w from a temperature controller.

The 300w was struggling to maintain 15C.

Due to extra associated costs I've set the temp to 14.3C with a 0.3C variance. When I get time I'll watch it for a day and see how long it is actually on for and how long it takes to drop the 0.3C so I can get an idea of how many hours a day it's on for.

That will determine how expensive it will be to maintain a temp over winter.

They always have a vat of tiddlers around 2 - 3 inch, most of mine came out of that vat and went straight in the pond. Some obviously turn out better than others but its interesting watching them develop. The Chag was a "proper" purchase for me at around £100, Think the most I ever spent for this pond was a couple of hundred and that one I lost when they ducks came and played havoc.

    anyway...

Big Full moon and clear skies last night, no frost but air temp 2c at 5 this morning.

10a.m Air temp up to 6.2c..... Pond temp 7.1c.. fish still active and looking for food but none going in today.

We have one butterfly from them as the daughter wanted it.. she's 23 now and I still struggle to say no lol.. nothing changes really and she still has to have at least one "princess" fish in the pond.
I actually quite like it but the damn thing has one pectoral fin longer than other but hey ho she had to have that one.. I was hoping it may balance out but don't think its going to.

That's one fish that I don t seem to be able to keep in my pond. I have had 7 in this pond. But none survived.
Whether it's anything to do with depth. Or hard water. I don t know. Not one had a mark on it. All scraped. All clear on scrapes.
I lost 2 one year. 3 the next year. and 2
Year after. And I love butterfly koi. As well.
Can t put my finger on it lol

    Hi RS,
Glad you have it all set up and running now, it will be very interesting what it costs to run in comparison to the 300w....... this cold weather has dropped mine further to 16.3c
