Last night 18 .4c last night. At 1900hrs
Fish are loving it. Netting fish scrapes
And pp dips.for a couple of finrot fish.
Not that bad did nt have to trim. The heat in the pond should help there immune systems kick in. And fix them selfs. Normally go in qt.
Upping the feed to 3 times a day now.

The last few days have been “scorchio” middle twenties for most of the day with mild breezes, they forecast thunderstorms, maybe tonight/tomorrow? We certainly need some rain here!

Currently @ 1020 this morning it’s 20.5°c & 63%RH outside in the open (in sun) in the shade it’s 19.4°c slight breeze!
The polytunnel air temps have been middle to high twenties & currently it’s 24.9°c whilst the pond is still slowly rising @ 18/19°c ave of three sensors!
Koi still on four feeds, but will go up to six probably next week, & high protein feeds, so all looking good,
Jobs to do change U/V tubes clean & full service 110W unit?

    Stay Lucky guys n gals

20.2 today, but reduced feeding due to levels rising. Possibly due to FMG In the water as I'm sure the same happened before.

    The Daily pond temp thread

    South Norfolk

Great weather of late, the normal for Norfolk winds, but No rain for far to long? I am fed up with watering new plants, just a half day or even better half night of rainfall ! Temps in the middle 20°+

    Out in the open @ 1045 it’s 21.4°c 49% RH in the shade it’s 20.5°c
Within my polytunnel it’s hit 30°+ over several days, so the pond has remained on a slow incline upwards, so today it’s @ 20.6°c, & the polytunnel air is climbing again currently 29.7°c!

All koi putting away 6 (six) feeds a day, of the good stuff! I will need to up the quantity soon as they clear it in about one or two minutes, & they are getting very boisterous & pushy! So I presume some are bullied out?

    Stay Lucky guys

Wow The Daily pond temp thread 6 feeds a day! I ration mine to 2 or 3! They go crazy for it as you describe.
The water temp has been much higher lately and seems to be settling around 22 or 23°c.

The forecast has changed compared to last week and it looks set to cool down after tomorrow and so the water temp will drop also I guess.

But it is summer now guys and any sunshine warms the water nicely for our hungry koi!

    Stay safe everyone.

With regards to feeds, the beauty of a reliable auto feed, gives you the chance of regulating the amount, not by weight, but distribution to the single second! So based on the time of year, & how many Koi you have (based on the number of gallons you believe can hold those numbers of Koi)
I start in the early spring, when the koi are looking for food, (indicated by the amount of mobility, ie when you appear they head your way immediately) so when temps are ok for the type of food you give.
I start mine off, on a single 20 second feed, then watch how interested they are, & how long they take to hoover it up?
It’s really funny watching them on the first few feeds, they look like they have forgotten how to eat of the surface, & miss more than they get!
So as temps rise in a stable way (ie not huge variations night/day) gradually up the quantity of feeds (still six right now) but not the duration, until as I posted they are like Piranha & go ape (white water rapids) then I up the feeds to thirty seconds, up to, my max so far has been 1 minute thirty seconds, ( that’s a ton of food )
Trying ALL the time to ensure food is eaten in no more than five to ten minutes, it’s also worth considering 50/50 floating & sinking food! A bit like social distancing LOL?

    Stay Lucky

interesting to see how other people fed thier fish.
i have a small click-lock tub that holds 200 g of food, that i fill each day from a bigger tub.
and vary how full i fill it depending on temps and how hungry they are.

i'm home all day so tend to feed small amounts regularly, maybe 10-15 feeds spread over the day.
plus treats, they have been getting a slice of melon everyday for breakfast since i took the covers off.
it makes the missus laugh to hear them slurping at it all day
