Thursday night I was at 13C, today achieved dead on 18C.

But worried about the forecast cold spell that will see highs of 11C for a few days.

My koi will not be happy if temps drop as fast as they've risen.

yes I’m pleased I have mine heated - apparently we could be going down to 1C overnight on Monday- and forecast is showing swings of 14C day to night. It’s mad isn’t it?

Yep, definitely mad, and of I had a heater now is definitely the time I'd use it to avoid the fluctuations.

Have a couple of pinked up koi as it is so not looking forward to the next few days. Cold temps won't hit us here till midday tomorrow so it will only be a light feed in the morning so as not to spike ammonia if temps do drop hard.

any ideas on why pink? I’m having the same with some of mine plus two are doing the laying on their side thing... then have a little swim then back on their side. So stressful

To be honest, no, I haven't been able to put my finger on exactly why.

Considerations are temperature fluctuations (max has been 3 degrees over 24hrs) ammonia spikes (a few to 0.25 and certainly none beyond 0.5), or possible parasites but I've scraped 4 koi and found nothing.

All other parameters are perfect and/or stable.

Just been out to check tempreture. Was 18.6c last time I looked 4pm yesterday.
    At 18.0 this morning. 0523am.
Put 2nd dose of fluke m in yesterday. A day earlier. Because of tempreture dropping over the next few days. Seen no flashing with the fish. So looking good. Very windy. And it's been raining over night. Happy fish keeping.folks.

    The Daily pond temp thread

    South Norfolk

It’s been a strange but warm Spring, with some almost violent temperature swings, high in the day & huge drops overnight! Now we are threatened with really cold tonight (Sunday)with high winds! (chill factor)

Outside in the open @ near midday very overcast, it’s 11.8°c @ 87% RH, in the shade it’s 11.6°c.Inside the polytunnel it’s currently 19.4°c, has been up to high twenties! The pond is slowly climbing steadily to 17/18°c having sensor problems again,
Koi are all feeding well & on four feeds now.

Cold spell only hit us a couple of hours ago.

Pond was at 17 this morning, reached a high of 18C this afternoon, but air temp has now dropped like a lead balloon down to 11C.

After a very warm day yesterday, my pond peaked at 19.7°c. Today started off quite warm, but it has steadily become colder through the day with a strong and gusty NNE wind.

This has cooled the pond by two degrees :-(
Just checked and it’s on 17.5°c.

    Same.

    scorching yesterday.
    Bloody freezing today....

Had enough of the covers being on...
Still too cold to take them off and they'll be going back on in 4 to 5 months!

Should have built the pond in the house not the garden....

    Pond at 13.8C this morning.

A drop of almost 5 degrees in 20 hours!

3 of them sitting on the bottom so I didn't disturb them or try to feed.

Currently 9C outside with expected high's of 11C so things will get worse before they get better.

Yesterday I was at 21C, it dropped overnight with the chill but with the cover on and sunshine today it went back up to 20 and is now stable at 19.3C since I’ve upped heater.

Lost one of my Doitsu Hariwake today though; gutted.

Scrapes taken by a friend of mine who runs his own Koi company. He couldn’t see any parasites. Fish was very pink and red; he believes stress related - probably down to the cloverleaf blanket answer I put in last weekend that has messed up my wobble pond. He confirmed he knows of many other who have lost koi after using CBA.
