Chilly wind today, but it’s dry and bright with hazy sunshine, so quite pleasant really.
My pond still has the heater coming on and off, more particularly at night of course. Koi all happy and feeding once a day.
It’s currently 9.6°c and the pond is on 11.8°c.

I can do that, can even trickle pond water very slowly directly into their vat over 24 hours, but thought a 6C drop in that time might cause problems, shock them or kill them.
If I wait for pond to be at 12C, and vat at 17/18C do you think that 5/6C drop over 24 hours will be ok?

That is the way to go mate. 6c drop is to much lol. 2 degrees a day I dropped my tank. Then the last 2 degrees to get it the
Same as AJ s I just left outside with an air stone. In a bowl. And by the time he arrived
It was at his temperature for his pond.
I came down from 22c to 11c over 6 day period. Then the last day in a bowl dropping another 2 degrees . They where fine. They would nt eat though. When it dropped to 10c.
There eating at full throttle in his pond now
Though.

I think lots of people have their tried and tested routines and stick to them and that’s great . Ponds can naturally fluctuate 3-4c a day.
I have read that a safe change is 0.2c per minuet
instant changes of more that 3-4 c can cause thermal shock or even death..
I think the change of 6c down over 24hrs would be safe but fish will be stressed but they would be stressed anyway moving.

Your spot on there mate. Everyone has there own ways. I mix my water from grow on to pond. In a 5 or 6 degree difference.
And do it in the middle of the two.
But each to there own. But you have to have figures.
I would hate to know I have contributed to killing a fish. With advice given. When being asked.
That's why I love this site. Some one will give you there experience. And it makes you take a step back. And then a rethink.

It’s been a chilly night with a touch of ground frost. But the day has dawned with more sunshine than yesterday and lighter winds. The day is set to be dry and mostly sunny and feeling pleasant later on in that spring sunshine.
Weekly pond filter maintenance later!
Current temp is 3.0°c and the pond is on 11.9°c.
