Cheers fred! I found out what has been happening! The pond theometer seems to have broke no clue how though mind you? I stuck the one I have outside the pond in the water as a test and was reading a lot higher so I popped down the fish shop bought a new one and yeah the old pond one was reading about 8c lower god knows how it broke. I was thinking it was the heater playing up at first didn’t consider the theometer.
So...
The pond is actually running at 18c
Happy days.

South Norfolk
Sorry not been around much, in & out of Hospital, still ongoing?
Been very wet & very cold scrapping ice off car windscreen daily (almost), pond thermometers have been playing up! New units fitted as double checks! So confidence is low on believable accuracy right now? Time will tell!
Outside in the open it’s 7.4°c @ 81% RH 1245pm in the shade it’s 5.9°c, inside the polytunnel the air temps have been really struggling of late, ie next to NO sun! So currently it’s 8.2°c, & the pond water is about 7.1°c ( an average of five monitors/thermometers )
I stopped feeding about a week ago, but my Koi are still actively looking, for most of the day?
Keep being Lucky guys.

Temps out side. 0.0c freezing here in hull
Pond temp 7.7c fish still active. Happy with that. On my experiment. Seeing as one end of pond open. With cover. To run my top pond.
That's where it is open for the flow. Been freezing now for 6 days. And the temp in the pond is still holding.

Christmas edges ever closer! The rain has been pretty relentless over the last few days, but a slight break today as it’s a dry start with some clear spells and not too cold. Just the odd shower possible today but sunny spells too. More rain tonight and into tomorrow!
Current temp is 5.9°c and the pond is on 11.8°c. Koi all looking good and feeding once a day on wheatgerm.

My pond has been at a solid 8C since my last post on 8th December.
Possibly a couple of late afternoon rises to 8.1 but these have been brief.

Can't get my head round it Fred, as we have been the mildest part of the country for the last couple of weeks and the North has been cold in comparison. I mean, it was 13C here for a few hours the other day.
Very unlikely but I wondered if my cover is preventing it warming up during the day, doubt it though.
More likely because I've no proper insulation board the pond is just mimicking the soil temp, and where the semi-raised sides are exposed the water is probably having a slight cooling effect on the soil.
Maybe my pond will warm up quicker in spring as the well insulated ponds might have the opposite effect, like keeping cold drinks in a flask.

My phone says 7c feels like 4c right now.
And it does feel like 4c. Pond still 8.7c
Maybe your covers not holding it in. Or maybe you need to insulate the sides of the pond walls. That's all I can think of
13c jesus that's spring time temps lol.

Pond still at 8C.
Been at that every day since 8th December. Even wondered if thermometer has got stuck!
Still feeding once per day and all Koi except Shusui are eating. (Normal winter behaviour for the Shusui).
Ammonia has crept up to 0.25 so need to cut down food a little, maybe to every other day.
Feeding a Mussels once to twice per week. Been a bit lazy with the earthworms so far this winter but will dig some up if temps drop below 8C for prolonged period.

Weather forecast up to mid January looks quite mild.
January is normally the coldest Month, but to me it seems winter comes later and later over the years. I swear it used to snow in November/December when I was a kid, but now tends to be more February/March.
