I suspend mine. I don’t know why but I’ve never liked the idea of it floating on the water It still insulates.

26 days and counting until british summer time...
thats when the polycarbonate covers are coming off and pond season is starting again!
had the covers off yesterday and today during the day as the weather is just so good.
i'm sure i saw my fish smile when they could see sky again, certainly look happier...
still putting them back on at night as it's still dropping down to freezing.
I won't be putting them away for winter, until we are out of april though... in case of snow

10+ days since ASHP last kicked in, been set at 10C, now set to 10.5C.
The warm weekend took pond up to 11.5C and as of last night it was still holding that, but this morning down to 11C.
Finished 7 weeks of fasting last week before feeding twice in Week 8. Will feed 3 times this week then gradually increase to once a day by end of March.

Don't be fooled. Just dropped down under 8 to 7.8 again today. Don't think I'll be taking my covers off till April looking at this forecast.

Pond still covered with 25mm polycarb in the South East, water temp 12.5C (should go higher today as forecast is 17C here).
ASHP was set to 11.5C, increased this morning to 12C, but it hasn't kicked in once in the past 14 days and haven't experienced any temp swings. My aim is to follow the natural pond temp rises with the ASHP set 0.5C below pond temp until such a time I'm ready to ramp it up for the summer which will likely commence the week after Easter when I remove covers and re-install the shower. (Working through Easter with rest days set for the week after hence that specific timing).

Looooong time visiting for me, been manic at work and doing 'things' at home - Pond been held at 14 all winter, polycarb covers still on, currently been overrun with blanket weed thats killed an airpump and is blocking everything - the joys of Koi keeping

Really Dave, what a nightmare, I guess they can all go when purchased at similar times, albeit they shouldn't, I still think personally that the life of products is artificially restricted nowadays... okay I'm just paranoid

This is definitely true. It's called planned obsolescence.
Although things aren't necessarily built to break after a certain amount of time, I think it's more the case that products are built with less durability than could be easily achieved for little additional cost. It's a win win for manufactrrs as it ensures that the costs to make products are kept low but also that customers have to buy more products.
For example I read that there is a lightbulb in a fire station in the US that has been working continuously for over 100 years. So the old style lightbulbs could be built to last... if the manufacturers really wanted them too. But the manufacturers (philips, osram, ge etc) agreed to make them with more flimsy filaments, ensuring they would burn out at some point, thus requiring the customer to buy replacement bulbs.
Or the modern equivalent is mobile phone companies slowing down old devices, or no longer providing software updates for old phones. Which gives the consumer no choice but to eventually buy a new handset, even if their old one actually works ok.

Ahhhh yes, very good analogies there, I think the whole of society is manipulated in that way to some extent too, from illness cures, software now subscription based, Apple making things only compatible within their own eco system, 500 different TV streaming services, damn the list is endless how they screw us over...

And yet my second hand easy drum that cost me £350 and was already 5 years+ old has only needed a new float switch in all the time I have had it which is at least 2 maybe 3 years now! Now I have said that it will explode the second I look at it again!
As for the temps, been around 14 the last few days at least, gets up near 15 by the end of the day when sunny then comes down to around 14.2 the next morning. Still covered at night but filter bay is not built still and so as AJM pointed out to me, likely losing the worst of the heat there.
