Hit 25.6 today, and there are signs of them being to chase.
Best get the spawning brushes in.

17.5 this morning and unfortunately my heater that was set to 18.5 following last few days temps. has packed up. Fortunately the suppliers have agreed to replace it under 2 year warranty, purchased Nov 2022.

21.6 in mine currently after a water change yesterday. The covers helping to hold the temps despite the crap weather since the weekend!

Was at 19.9 this morning, managed to get up to 20.6 again today. Beautiful temps for July On the plus side the nitrite reading was a trace so at least the media seems to have finally cycled. Now got 200l of K+ with the last 50l added in the past 3 weeks little and often. Feeding 6 times today so will test again in the morning and see if the reading is still fine as it's the most I have pushed it since the new filters went on.

Pond holding at 22c with ASHP, has been on most nights recently so costing more. Fish are doing well. Going to do a measure up in the autumn. Anyone had any clever ideas for diy measuring bowls? I need a 1m one and I’m loathed to pay the koi tax The Daily pond temp thread

This summer weather is rubbish though. Looking like a washout for all of July. Let’s hope august and September are kind The Daily pond temp thread

Only managed 19.7 to day which I’m quite pleased with, considering some of the air temps in some parts of the country.
Been told by a good friend of mine who works for the met office that things are going to change, but he wouldn’t say for better or worse or even when.
    Great help, cheers mate.

Think the fish are getting used to this crap whether as there feeding like piranhas.

I remember it was the beginning of July last year when I had just got back form holiday, we had 2 days of 20+ sunshine then it started raining and I don't think it has stopped since!

Nitrite at 0.5 this morning so at least it handled the doubling of feed pretty well, should take long to catch up just have to keep feeding the bacteria.

    Finally some decent temps recently!

My pond has been sat at 22-23c since start of June using ASHP. With the better weather it hasn’t been on at all, and did a good job keeping pond stable through that colder spells. Well pleased with it.

Thinking ahead to winter though….still thinking I won’t heat to save costs, or just keep it at 10c and see how it goes. But would like better polycarbonate covers to do that. Anyone using 35mm? And would it span a 3m gap without support?

    Cheers

The mild temp at the moment is certainly increasing the feeding window, my fish are feeding at about the same rate as they did in early September
Pond at 14.5 no covers or heating.
    Long may it last.

West Midlands is mild in the day too but overnight temps erratic. Have polycarbonate covers with temps of 11.4 unheated. Fish definitely still feeding well.

Pond has been covered for about 10 days following the heron visit. I also decommissioned the shower at the same time.

This will be my first winter running an ASHP just to take the edge off freezing temps.

It's currently set at 15.5C and hasn't powered up for 6 days, and only twice in the last 11 days.

    Pond at 15.7C.

Currently feeding twice a day but will have to deal with the challenge of having a number of overweight females that I want to fast for a month or 2, but also having one underweight koi that ideally needs to keep feeding.

I fashioned a makeshift polythene cover I can winch up in the day. Ugly as hell but managing to hang around 13c up in the north west. And massive improved fish behaviour without rain hitting the pond.

    still at 18-19C uncovered.
pretty mild for the time of year ATM.
ASHP costs are around 60kWh for the month or £7.20

i'll be covering soon though as soon as temps drop.
it's been nice having an 'open' pond season for nearly 8 months

Would be interested to know what your leccy unit costs are Dave?

I was a bit late to the fixed deal party, and recently signed for 18 months at 57.59p standing charge and 22.38p per KWh.

Also my first winter with an ASHP.

Pond had been covered the last few weeks and holding 18c with minimal heat input. I’ve started dropping it down now though to 17c.

What temps do people with ASHP on here keep their ponds at? I’m thinking of getting it to 10c and seeing what the costs are like. Aware ASHP are less efficient in winter so bit unsure about what to expect. It’s a thermotec inverter 12kw.
