Think it was the last day of summer today! Weather forecast looks cooler and cooler next week. Pond temp 19.8 and coincidentally my fish finished the last scoop of saki growth food - perfect timing! Switching to multiseason from tomorrow onwards. Fish turned out really well the tosai all doubled length or more. This is after prolonged battle with flukes in June and the rubbish July weather as we all know

Sounds like you've had a good season despite the issues! I'm at 21.9 myself, wonder how long the covers will hold the temps there with it cooling off a bit now. Hopefully will stay around the low 20s for another few weeks and see some more growth but might be wishful thinking! I'm on the Balance sinking now going into Autumn and will probably give the fish a measure and scrape in October to make sure all is well going into winter after the bacterial issues I had previously this year!

Pond dropped from 19C to 17.7 overnight last night.
Shower is off as well.
That said, even 17.7 compares well against July's temps!

Pond dropped to 16.9c today. Won’t be long until the covers go on
Fish have done well though all things considered, certainly got through the food. Very impressed with my super monster showa. Was about 40cm jumbo tosai back in May and has done amazing. 50cm now but has put on loads of body and depth, and more sumi development. Here are a couple development pics!

Pond temp down to 12.3C from 18.7C last Saturday. I thought the new pond would loose temperature quickly because of the surface area
(79m2) but not quite that quickly

19.7 in mine still, will probably reduce the feed going forward although still got temps of around 19-20 this week it seems so might just leave it another week depending on if it starts falling or not!

Just wondering how most people take their water temperatures. I’ve got a temperature probe in the inlet off the Nexus from the bottom drain.
just interested to know.

0.1 ish . But in all fairness that could be the probe calibration really

I have 2 which are permanently installed.
- 1 is in the Inazuma Drum/Bio Unit
- 1 is in the Pond (floating)
They permanently show a c 0.5 degree difference with the in pond unit being the lower temperature. I have checked and both are accurate. I have put the difference down to the hot environment / pumps and 4 UV lights. I always quote the lower (pond) number on here.
This morning is the first time since May 13th I have recorded a temperature of under 25 degrees. Throughout that time the mid-morning average has been around 27.
All of the fish have greedily fed on HS Growth food with impressive results. It does raise questions in my mind about ideal and 'tolerable' temperatures for Koi. At no time (imho) have they acted stressed by the heat although up until last week they were mostly protected from sunlight by "sail-shades".
Not scientific but could it be abrupt changes in temperature that stress your fish for those who observe stressed behaviour in rising temperatures?Last edited by EME101; 24-09-2023 at 09:39 AM.

I keep thinking it's nearly time for the end of season measure up then check the forecast and we got another bit of heat so put it off again. It's welcome though! Still around 19 last time I checked.

I think I need to check out my temp probe as it’s only reading 13.8, as everyone posting on here says there reading 19 +.
