pond now at 24C,
ASHP makes getting to that temperature and holding it easy.
the unit doesn't run often atm, in fact not at all today, but the hysteris is at 1C.
need to look at changing it to 0.5C
so currently it heats slowly up to 25C then turns off, and temp drops back to 23C over a couple of days.
then ASHP kicks back in again running slowly lifting it back to 25C over the day.

Topped 20.1 today! Covers back on at 5pm to hold it as best as possible as the sun is no longer on the pond around then and I was out for the evening anyway! Only feeding twice a day currently although may start to add a third if I can maintain 20. Want to build the bio up ready for intense feeding rather than overdo it now.

Been holding 25C for about a week now, fish are loving it and voraciously hungry.
but with the drop in night time temperature i think i might have put my poly covers away too soon.
the ASHP was doing about 3kw a day with no covers on night or day to hold 25C easily when it was warmer.
But now the night temps have dropped down as low as 4C it's doing about 6kw a day, (though i have set the timer to let it catch up during economy 7)
am i being a bit overly abitious with the ASHP holding 25C with no covers in may
what temps are the rest of you at, and have you put the covers away until winter?Last edited by davethefish1; 30-05-2023 at 08:13 AM.

The Daily pond temp thread
Pond temperature has been a bit frustrating this month. Periodically hit over 17c but has been around 16c for last few weeks. Covers have been off permanently as well for a few weeks.
Seriously considering heating to help mitigate the usual spring issues and give the fish a decent chance to grow.
Like the look of the thermotec eco Dave, interested to see how you get on.

Thanks, to be fair it has really helped with the gill flukes
They were knocked back over 4 weeks treating 8 times in April but still not gone.
But they have been coping a lot better at 25C with only the occasional flick or flash and still eating well.
Just hoping it warms up again soon or the poly covers will need to come back out...

I'm at 19.5 and still covering at night and on days like today where it was cold here with no sun. If I'm out or the weathers pants they are staying on at the moment and probably all summer again to retain temps as it's a cost effective way of extending the season albeit a little bit more work but I can handle that.
Interesting how little electric it's using Dave, my heater is 3kw so does that in an hour and probably gets me .1 of a degree or so at best!!

it currently loses up to 2C during the off period of 17 hours then on for 7 hours which is enough to raise it back up to 25C.
according to the app data from the wifi energy monitor,
it runs at about 1.3kw probably with a COP of 5ish to start with, so puts in about 7 kw in an hour, after an hour it has put about 1C into the pond.
then it starts to run slower at about 850w for an hour or so and finally down to 450w for the last 2-3 hours trickling heat in.
but when it's warmer starts off at 850w and then drops to about 450w and runs for 4 or 5 hours.

water fluctuating between 17c and 18c, ashp set to 18c with no covers on, heater comes on every 18 to 24 hours due to heat loss especially at night as colder in this strong wind.....only took covers off last week, should of left them on i think for this week then would be back to 20c, no point being at 20c at the moment as nighttime temp loss is 1c.

18.8 and finally scraped today. Guess what I found although only 2, Flukes of course! Think it was a gill fluke and a skin fluke, one had the 2 hooks and the other was 100% a skin fluke. Think I will PP and go for superverm as used everything last year and they are still here so not going down the route of spending 100s on treatments again.
