Crept up to 11.1 from 10.8 yesterday, Still feeling a small amount once a day now. Fish seem happy and still feeding SH balance with the last of the aqua source all season with garlic. Once the aqua source is gone I will just be feeding SH balance as and when. Under 10 I will probably feed once every few days if at all.

I got ASHP on trying to keep temp stable around 12.6 to 13 degrees, still feeding 5 times a day, don't know if I should be feeding less though, but they're actively looking for food and grubbing around.
I'd welcome advice regarding feeding this time of year and through colder month's, I'm feeding Saki Multi season.

Struggling to hang onto 10C now, not checked this morning but I suspect pond will be around 9.6C. (will edit post if that's incorrect when I check).
This day in:
2019 = 8.5C
2020 = 14C (with 600w aquarium heater running).
2021 = 9C

Morning from north Essex.
The pond has slowly been going down in temp this month, but holding at 10.9c today. Fish seem happy enough. Getting 2 small feeds a day, for 60g in total.
Looks like the temp is really set to drop going into December. In previous years I’ve had a polyethylene sheet over the polycarbonate covers, which I think helps trap a bit more heat and keep out cold rain water. Not got it out at the moment, but might see if it makes a difference.

I went in the Koi Shack thismorning and hear a strange bleeping! I'd forgotten about the alarm on the thermometer set at 8c - it was reading 7.3!
Found an old pond diary from 2002; 08-12-02, Big pond, 14.0c, heater on a lot! air temp.5.0c, the days when we could afford heatingLast edited by KiOgon; 04-12-2022 at 08:00 PM. Reason: smelling pisstake ;-)

Pond temp varies from 12.3 to 12.9 through day, I've got the ASHP as backup to keep temperature in check, dropped feeds down to 3 a day now, with the Aqua Forte feeder set to drop feed for 15 seconds.

10.2 here in North Essex, but not looking good next week
. I put the polyethylene sheet over the covers, so hopefully that’ll help retain a bit more heat. Fish are getting ~40g a day now, but will soon make that every other day

Pond 8.7C, fully covered with 25mm polycarb.
Greedy gits still eating twice a day and from today I'm dropping from 70 grams to 50 grams a day.
My Doitsu Sanke usually the first to sulk in cold weather and he didn't come for food today (He's still picking at the pond floor though, looking for mussels which he likes in winter). Always feel sorry for him when temps are down.

I finally got my winter covers built (from some reclaimed 25mm multiwall poly carb and a shed load of gorilla tape to seal the edges). They're much easier to manoeuvre than my first set of winter covers that I made, which are essentially frames of 2" x 2" wood with 10mm polycarb panels in.
Looks like I was just in time to get the covers on as a cold front is apparently heading our way from tomorrow.
I have to say the fish looked pretty miserable. The water is 9.3C, so not super cold. I'm wondering how they will fair in even colder temps?
I noticed my chag and Yambuki were both parked up on the bottom. The Yambuki at least had it's fins out, but the chag didn't. Sitting on the pond floor with fins clamped at the start of winter does not bode well. Now I'm worried my chag won't make it through the winter.
