Yes, still covered, but I lifted part of covers to give them sunlight today and pond temp still kept rising.

Water temp in the Eazy Pod is higher than the shed temperature it's 8.8 this morning and the shed is slightly lower at about 8 I think.

Looks like running the heater 30 mins on and off maybe working?

    9.am air temp 7.6c Pond temp 7.9c

Fish wanting food again so guess it is time to put my higher flow pump back on seeing as the pond is waking back up. Only highs of 8c forecast today though and down to 5c tonight.. meant to be milder again tomorrow though.

7.6 this morning, I expect it to creep up again today, hopefully over 8 from today onward with the good temps forecasted for the next week or two. Knowing how unpredictable the weather is here we will probably get to mid march and have another beast from the east plummet us back into the minus temps for another month

Cooler last night with a stiff breeze .. pond had made it to 8.3c by tea time yesterday, down to 7.5c this morning though with air temp at 7c.

Anyway, bigger pump is back on and air also on full time ready for spring. Added clay yesterday for the first time this year and will do again in a couple of days, then maybe once a week through spring and summer.

8.1 in mine at the moment, I may start to add clay again soon too which might help knock the blanket weed a little and take the bits down the bottom drain but we shall see.

I'm a recent convert to clay, not sure how good it is with algae but they reckon it helps, the reason I started using it was a year or so ago I was doing some jobs around the pond edge. My garden is pretty much just clay as soon as you put a spade in the ground, and unintentionally I managed to put a healthy dose of my garden clay in the pond .. when it cleared a few days later my water was better than I'd ever seen it, the fish were ravenous, and they had a vibrancy about their colour they had never had before.

I use the proper koi stuff now of course, and it does seem to replicate to some extent the results of my gardening accident, albeit not quite as good but then to replicate it I'd need to put in a shovel full at a time which would be awfully expensive.

Sod the garden, get the fish that good clay! I know what you mean though, I didn't notice a huge appetite increase with my fish after the NT labs clay I have currently but the water looked much clearer and seemed to make them more vibrant, I just hate not being able to see them clearly whilst it clears which can take a few days in my pond

I don't think there would be any problem with Fry AJ, if anything its giving them a more natural environment surely. I think the only issue would be observing the fry in the cloudy water when it first goes in, wouldn't concern me overly much. Not sure re salt but again can't see any reason it would be a problem personally.

I've been using clay every week since around September of last year. Something I have noticed, is that when using the recommended dose the Tosai don't seem to like it. I can't be sure of course but I suspect there is discomfort for them in the gills. Over the winter, I've continued to dose weekly but a reduced dose (approx 2/3rds) and have not noticed any of the Tosai looking stressed and they certainly seem to have a good appetite.

That's interesting, never noticed anything adverse with my fish but then everybodies seem different, what dose rate does yours give? The stuff I have states to dose at 1 level tablespoon (15g) per 4000 ltrs once or twice a week, it would be 3 level table spoons for my pond but it seems so little I tend to get a bit generous with the spoon level.
