South Norfolk
Morning guys, a break in the crazy spring sunshine, & unseasonal temperatures? Like a lot of places we are again struggling with the lack of rain, it must be a month now?
Out in the open the temperature is 17.5°c & 55% RH, also overcast today with the threat! Of some rain overnight/tomorrow ?
The polytunnel has been up in the high 20’s & low 30’s, but today it’s 22°c, whilst the pond is, surface temp is 15.6°c & two foot down it’s 11.7°c (8000 uk gallons)
The Auto feeder is now on four 20 second feeds per day, with a mix of wheat germ + garlic, & multi season Dai Suki, remainder from last Autumn, it won’t be long before they go on to the real good stuff.
Keep on being Lucky!

I’m at 17.7 today just through the sunshine so I’ve just upped my heater to 17.5 to try and keep it stable. Will be interesting to see what the forecast rain will do to my heater run times.

Would you recommend putting covers on this week? We have had 5 weeks without rain and today started to get some light rain and lower temps. Daily air temps have been consistently above 18 degrees and water got as high as 16.8 but failing back now to 14.7 today and gas heater set to come on at 14.
have 3700 gallons and 5 ½ feet depth .
thinking it might be on permanently as temps set to fall back to 6-13 degrees for the next week? We’re in northwest , what are you guys thinking?

I’ve literally just covered ours up as we were looking from inside and could see it steaming! Keep that heat in!
Edited to add - can’t wait for my poly to turn up on Friday!

my covers are back on...
it might help a little towards slowing global warming... if i'm not directly heating the planet through my pond
i keep the covers at the side of the cabin when it's warm and chuck them over if we get a sudden drop in temp like last night.
it will probably be june before i stow them away for the summer.
what do they say... "ne'er cast a clout till may be out"?

I’ve just taken the covers off as the sun has been on the pond for about an hour. Temp is sitting at 17.1 today.
I will be putting them back on before 7 tonight.

Pond temp at 14.6c this morning. Keeping mine off.
I have just got the fish from being skittish.
After having them on for winter.
Might stress them. Plus if I can take it.so are they make hardy. Haha.

just put mine up to 18C today, and going to increase it to 20c over the next 2 days.
after dosing fluke solve, higher temp shortens the life cycle of gill flukes to 3-4 days
so i'm hoping that will solve my issue...or at the very least rule one out.

Pond averaged 13.5 all week which is pretty much what I expected although down to 12 this morning which is lower than it has been.
Interesting thing yesterday, pond was at 13C and I stopped flow through the anoxic section for a couple of hours while working on it and by the end the anoxic section had gone up to 14.5C.
Just shows how fast it changes with a small volume.

17.3 here this morning, hoping to be up to 18ish later today and I’ll pop the heater up. Still covering from 7pm- 9am overnight. Still waiting on my polysheets that I was promised would be delivered by yesterday. Getting annoyed now as the company haven’t even replied to my emails. Will be notifying the bank on Monday if they don’t deliver today.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
