oh dear Johnathan, you need to come south mate, its raining here and very windy but quite mild, forecast shows it getting colder by this weekend and we might get a flurry but hopefully the white stuff will just stay up your end my water was 11.1 yesterday I was going to go for a dip but went to the beach instead and did some sun bathing.....its blowing a hooley again here wet and windy, been lugworm digging the past few evenings and they are very deep due to the pressure and crap weather, a waste of my time...….

Up till yesterday my pond has barely moved from 8C for the last 3 months. I thought the thermometer might be faulty so stuck another one in there.... Confirmed 8C.
Going to be mild this week so I removed the tarp and bubble wrap sandwich covers yesterday and did a 12% water change which pushed temp up to 9C.
Woke up this morning gave the koi a big feed but they were slow to eat. Then checked temp, and its down to 7C, lowest it's been in months.
So I've finally got proof the tarp sandwich was actually working!

well that's proof indeed mate, amazing the water change injected 2 degree's into the pond...… as you say going to be milder this week, I was up at 4am digging lugworm this morning and it was ruddy cold on my hands car said it was 4 degree's but in the windchill it felt like zero!....Steve.

Nice one RS. My pond is reading 9.3c.
So while walking the dog. I thought about the covers. Coming off. Then just read your
Thread. It's still to cold on a night. So I have decided to leave them on for another week lol. Its colder up here then down south. It's the night time that's the problem
I think with out the covers on. It will be in the 7c to 8c mark. So another week for my pond.

Guys it’s not just about where you are temperature wise, it’s about how large, the volume of water you have?
Not being disrespectful if you have a puddle? It will warm up quickly but it will also drop to Cold very quickly? A large volume of say 5,000 + uk gallons will rise & fall very slowly! By comparison.
“Thermal mass”
Just remember we are still in winter until April/May!
Don’t jump the gun.
Stay Lucky

Iv been steady at 18 for a while now even tho Iv been dropping the amount of time the heater kicks in! I think the average temp is slowly creeping up! Going to Lower the amount the heater kicks in til it’s not on at all! So hopefully end of April it’s off completely! Even the plants are budding and shooting leafs all looking very exciting
