    Drum Float Switch Replacement

    Hello Folks ,

I`m having issues with the float switch on my Draco Solum 16 Drum . Every now and again it fails to trigger resulting in the pump running dry . I`ve spoken to the dealer and he thinks it may need replacing .

Just wondering if I can get away with buying just the float switch from Ebay , for around £5 rather than spend £70 on a replacement Draco assembly ?

    Anyone had similar issues ?

    Hi Colin hope your well

My Draco had the above float switch fitted but think they have been changed so not sure which one yours is.
I bought the above and made a new longer pipe so it could be lowered easily, also have a spare .
I glued and siliconed it onto the bend.

    Thanks John . Much appreciated.

I was looking at those. Did you just wire it into the junction box ? Just wanted to make sure it was compatible. Also was the cable long enough or did you have to put a connector in ?
    Thanks again , that's very helpful 👍

I just wired it in the same as the old one to the junction box.

The cable is too short,so I soldered it to a longer piece of cable and taped it up,the connection was in the long piece of tube so hidden.

Think I got the pipe bits from Abracadabra, you only need straight pipe and 1 x elbow, but I did two so one as spare.
I did the pipe a bit longer than the original so it could be lowered more then drum not going off as often.

    All 12v.

    Thanks John .
I disconnected the switch and gave it a good clean and its been ok for the last few days - but I`ll buy the replacement switch in case it does it again . Better than spending £70 on an assembly from Draco ! I`ll try and use the existing pipework - the water level in mine is set quite high , so I dont need a longer pipe , but thanks for the tip .

I've got a couple of these as spares too, but a good clean seems to do wonders.

    Just to update ,

After I`d cleaned the switch , it worked ok for a couple of days and then started failing again .

I put the new switch on and it seems ok now . Easy enough to do . Just a bit fiddly removing the old switch and glue from the pipework , but managed ok . Its worth buying 2 new ones (literally cost £1 extra !) I set one up temporarily , while I removed the old switch and glued the other one in place .

Thanks for the advice , guys - especially John . Saved me buying a new assembly from Draco . Makes a nice change to save a few quid !
