    there are some good options,
but they only really get full sun resistance when they are established and have well developed roots.

'acer palmatum bloodgood' for a dark red leaf variety with gracefully arching branches.
for a small dwarf weeping acer with finely serrated leaves, acer palmatum dessectum atropurpureum (red), or acer palmatum viridis(green)
for stunning orange autumn colour 'acer palmatum osakasuki'

some to avoid that don't like full sun are 'acer palmatum orange dream' 'acer palmatum katsura' 'acer palmatum momoiro'

or you could also set up an area with 50% shade netting on poles or a pergola to protect them from full sun.

My experience has been that no Acers in afternoon sun have done welll.

Those in a wind-sheltered spot that get a morning sun up till about 11am seem to do the best.

I currently have a 3 year old Acer Garnet behind the pond which gets strong afternoon sun. Looks fantastic right now but I suspect by mid summer all its leaves will be curled up and crispy.

The Emerald Lace that's in a shady spot (facing East/North) has done best out of all of them.

The 22+ year old Acer Palmatum out the front is in direct sun all day and it does pretty well, but I overheard next door talking about cutting it down to give themselves more parking room. It was planted by previous owners of my house in agreement with previous owners of next door and the trunk sits bang in the centre of the boundary line. It is a stunning tree and would make an incredible Bonsai if attended to by someone skilled at that.

I have many (25+) acers, most in full sun positions and generally don't have a lot of problem with leaf scorching (sun or wind). In my experience the key is to get the watering right, particularly before the plants are well established.

I think my acer is diseased, the first couple of years it looked great and flowered beautifully with no issues, the last couple the leaves look like this before curling up and mostly falling off. Also has whiter areas on the branches and then the odd dead white bit

Not seen that on mine before. Have you done a google image search?

I have had strange issues where I thought one of mine was diseased, looked terrible all year, but then the following year it was good again.

When you say getting the watering right, what exactly do you mean?

My one planted behind the pond (in the ground) is located where previous Acers have died. I water it every day in in summer. It was planted in a big hole filled with ericacous compost and the surrounding soil is top soil which I think from the colour is quite a sandy mix that I purchased from a builders merchant.
