AJ you will need something to clean inside of window. maybe a battery operated temp sensor and maybe filter gel to combat NPS taken just over three months to get on top of nps on my new pond.

Ooo good call in the window ! Cheers keith

    Got a couple temp probes

And do have a snake oil pond bomb on the way (a win from koi comps)

3 months ain't bad at all for NPS seen a lot of ponds take 18 month + so be out of it , was the media from the old pond ?

nope tested twice a day and plenty of water changes and copious amounts of filter bacteria/gel and kept feed down .water temp helped over past week or so. Note to self read up about item your buying before buying. I bought some filter additive and before using it read the label use over 12 degrees .

Just KH test, Bicarb and food kept in stock.
Still have some anaesthetic and iodine spray left over from digging out a tumour (from fish, not me!) a couple of years ago, but that's about it.
All pretty stable now (and that last statement is probably the "kiss of death" on my trouble-free pond!).
My DIY ponds from 1988 until present day.

spare carbon, though my current big blues have done over 250,000 litres in the last 12 months and are still at 0.00ppm chlorine.
got a bucket of bi carb, tub of envirex i add weekly, SV, and API tapwater dechlorinator.
just need to get some food soon as the 15kg sacks have all gone and i've got about 5kg of balance and colour left in a couple of buckets.

Essential stock check in March, ready for the season, from my limited experience:
    Test kits
    Supaverm (amazing stuff)
100kg salt (enough to get 0.6%) - I now know my pond has a lot more volume than I thought.
    Duncan Griffith ICC
Formalin ( I may ditch that for ICC as FMG seems to do feck all for costia/chilo these days without astronomical doses which cost a fair penny compared to the ICC)
    Malachite green
    Columbo FMC50 (for white spot)
    PP
    DPD4 tablets
ST to stop PP treatments, it's much cheaper than Hydrogen peroxide. Not for chlorine unless an emergency, I have a 3 stage and 50kg carbon bottle)- you never know when you'll need it though!
Anaesthetic (never really needed to use it, I now just opt to get wet when doing anything, but you never know)
    Tamodine
Virkon tablets. (I Don't dose it. Emergency use only (once ever)
25kg Bi carb, (albeit leftovers as the pond has not needing any since going anoxic) - ditch those moving beds and baccy showers people!

    I have never used:
The stuff that acts like a plaster to cover wounds. - never seen the need, just clean it up with tamodine and whack it back in the pond
Any blanket weed treatment.- I find that as soon I get long strands of hair algae it times well with the insect larvae being present in the pond and if I leave it a few weeks longer than it feels comfortable then the Koi end up eating it, whilst getting at the larvae. - I could just be lucky in that respect?
Never used a detox or clay. Binding unwanted materials works short term, but only if you change water to remove the binders, so why not just change the water!? - YouTube hype.
Only ever used cheap filter start bacterias and don't bother anymore since everyone started pulling EA bacteria balls out of their filters years later. Just do not believe the hype after that debacle.

I know going off your topic Johnathan.

As Al said, I have gone off moving bed and showers and use a large static bed instead full of all sorts of media and leave it alone.
My UV is never on and have a small anoxic filter with a few plants in which is left alone.
Water is great no blanket weed but get some water moss which is a pain and cant get rid of it!!!

How very dare you go off topic !!! That's @Frimley Koi keeper job .

I did look at anoxic a few years back and they do seem very good if you get it right

I Do think showers are the root of all evil around parasites and treatments

but am gunna stick with the nexus once this last stage of pond work is done I ain't touching it for the life of me !!!! Only thing i would possibly like is a drop in draco but even that seems to much like hard work sorting water supply
    .

It's an enzyme food for bacteria, helps breakdown any tiny bit's of crap collecting in the pond.
I'd use the detox but can chelate metals, chemicals, and chlorine with API tapwater dechlorinator.

And yes, I forgot (70 next year) - microscope and stuff in the house and two spare air pumps in the shed (thought it wise given the air lift driven circulation).

Hitting NPS like a brick wall was gunna give some it ago as a helping hand do you think detox or envirex would be better . . As your signature states dilution is the best way but if this can help along the way aswell ?

my NPS only improved when i got a full week of constant 12 degrees or above and little feeding.
my problem now is ive installed a digital thermometer and PH probe in the fish house and have noticed that ph rises approx 0.80 ph 7.35 to 8.2 ish from first feed in the morning to the last one 09:30-12-30 and 16-30. then back to low in the morning should i be concerned.

I wish I’d asked this question when I started! I’ve recently switched from a pressurised filter to the Eazypod auto and literally built a shed around it. Biobalance (v soft water around the midlands), phosphate remover, Virkon (keep kit clean and twice a year pond treatment), spare pump, parasite treatment (just started &#128546, water test kit, thermometer, spare hose clips, net, blue bowl, microscope and slides. Clean bucket handy for adding treatments to water. Used to use pond bombs regularly as the old filter was terrible biological filter and will see if it’s still needed now I’ve switched. Oh, and long sleeved pond gloves to clean the pond.
