    Time for an upgrade?

I started out 2years ago. 4500l pond liner pond is next to a flower bed. Originally a wilderness pond and home to rampant water lilies. After draining and clean out I set up a 20000l allpondsolution with UV pressure filter so it could be hidden in a hole in the flower bed. Flexible piping and pump raised off bottom of pond after our pond accidentally drained itself when hose slipped off filter. Waste drains to flower bed. 4 koi happily in residence for a year. Trouble is the pump doesn’t clear water though parameters were stable. Now rising phosphate after 2 years. Use pond bombs regularly which help clear but not for long. Do I need to change the filter or am I doing something wrong?

TBH that sort of filter will never manage a pond your size with Koi. I'd say research and decide what would suit your layout, but be prepared for something that takes up a lot more space and of course will cost a lot more. On the bright side you can stop wasting money on pond bombs and save that towards your new filter, your fish will thank you

Nexus or an easy pod would really change your pond dramatically.
3070 Gallons. 4" Bottom Drain and Skimmer. Draco Solum 16 Drum. Anoxic Filtration. Air lift returns.

Thanks all. I was actually thinking of a Nexus. I’m glad to hear you’re happy with yours.

Just a thought. Do you ever worry about introducing unwanted bugs when you buy a filter second hand?

Use a very strong dose of pp .Potassium permanganate. . So in a nexus jet wash it all out making sure to get all the little hidden bits including drain work , close all valves and fill the nexus with water and a VERY strong dose of the pp . Leave to soak 24/48 hours. . Some one else might better advise on wether to have the air running when soaking ??

Drain rise and should be good to go

Just looked at the original post at a 1k gal pond maybe a easy pod would cope and could always add a tempest after it or apex koi have a pre filter that drops in the easy pod to help with fines .

Would be a lot less filter foot print

Funny you should say that. 😂 Went to check out the Nexus and thought that’s bigger than my first car! Eazypod is on order. Also, in the meantime I was shoulders deep in brown muck cleaning the pressurised filter trying to at least bridge the time to the new filter maturing. I’m planning on running both for a while but when would you bite the bullet and stop the old filter running?

The old pressure filter will be doing barely anything for mechanical filtration. Bio wise I would just chuck the sponges in the pond for a couple of weeks and change over to the easipod instantly.

Calm the feeding right down to keep a close eye testing every couple days . Thing is yes new filter but there is a massive amount of good bio on the pond walls pipes ect . You could get a little rise in your tests but shouldn't ne anything like NPS

If you can get the filter swop done ASAP the temps will be in your favour for once

    Thanks Everyone!

Not a frequent poster here but when I do, it’s always really helpful. Thank you. The ammonia has drifted upwards after a month but nothing that the system can’t handle hopefully. I see what you all meant about the fines. I’ve placed a 200micron mesh bag over the outlet and it’s improved the situation but will have to wait and see.
